HARNESS- -PAD PRESS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 276,946, dated May 1, 1883..
Application filed March 6, 1883.
ments used by harness-makers for pressing ing from the body A to swing vertically.
parts of harness-leather into form for pads previous to stufling and mounting the same; and it has for its object to produce apress for forming the two pads of .a back-band in one piece of leather; and it consists in the construction and combination of parts forming a harness-pad press, hereinafter described and claimed, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure l is aside elevation, and Fig. 2 is a plan view, of my invention. I
A represents the body of the press, made of metal, having two elevated fo'rms,B, shaped with neatly-curved surfaces conforming to the desired shape of the pads which are to be formed upon them.
represents two metallic loops conforming internally to the periphery of the forms B, but enough larger than said forms to admit the thickness of leather between. I The loops G are hinged at their inner ends to posts D project E represents two springs, one being firmly secured to each end of the body A. These springs are each provided with a series of (No model.)
] wet and of the required dimensions to form two connected pads, is inserted beneath the loops at their common hinge and drawn over both raised forms B. One of the loops is then pressed upon the leather, using its outer end as a lever, until the leather is smoothly and tightly drawn down upon the former, and is so fastened by means of one of the spring-hooks E F. The amount of leather desired for slack or space between the pads is then gathered under the hinge, and the other loop is pressed down upon the leather and secured, like the first, and when the leather has taken its set on the form the process is complete.
Some of theadvantages of this invention are that the forms B will produce any number of pads exactly alike, and these forms, being artistically shaped, will produce better fitting pads than those made without such .conven: iences. At the same time .those pads, being formed two at a time, are much quicker made, and, being connected together, will be m ore du- Table than if separate. By means of this press dispensed with.
What I claim, and wish to secure by Letters ,Patent, is-- The body A, having two pad-shaped elevations, B, and two hinge-posts, D, in combination with the two metallic loops 0, conforming internally tothe periphery of the elevations B, and hinged to the posts D, and spring-hooks shown and described, for the purpose specified.
