SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,357, dated September 17, 1889.

Be it known that I, SYLvEsTER W". SHIRK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident ofByhalia, in the county of Union and State of Ohio, have invented certain newv and useful Improvements in Loops for Harness- Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to metal loops for harness, and is designed for use on lines, bridles, hame-tugs, or other place where a single loop can be used; and it consists of the novelly-constructed metal loop hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a harness-loop embodying the improvements of my invention. Fig. 2 is a View in perspective of the same applied to a suitable portion of the harness by securing-rivets, and Fig. 3 is a 1011- gitudinal sectional view of the loop secured to the strap.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, Aflesignates the base of the loop, which is composed of a flat body portion provided with rectangular corners, and is provided with end perforations B and an intermediate perforation O, through which are passed upwardly, through perforations D in the strap E, to which the base of the loop is to be secured, the headed rivets B, said rivets being upset upon the upper or outer side to secure the device in place without the aid of stitching or sewing, and also forming a secure fastening for the metallic loop.

The loop proper F is a transverse nearly rectangular-shaped loop in longitudinal section of the loop and in the transverse direction of the base-plate, and is cast integral with the base-plate.

It will be noticed that the base of the loop A is depressed or concaved, as at a, while the upper transverse portion of the loop proper is correspondingly oonveXed, forming a bulge fupon its under side. This has the effect, when the strap is inserted through the loop, of pressing the same down within the concavity of the base, the swell or bulge of the upper portion of the loop forming approximately a wedge.

In the illustration the base of the loop is shown secured to a strap provided with a tongued buckle G, which is designed to engage the perforated end of a projecting strap H, secured to the under or inner face of the strap E by the rivets R, the free end of the strap being designed to engage the buckle in the usual manner.

The loop and base-plate may be nickelplated or silver-plated to give them the desired ornamental appearance.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As an improved article of manufacture, a metallic loop for harness, comprising the metal plate provided with end perforations and intermediate perforation, and also provided near one end with a depression or concavity, and formed or provided above said concavity with a metal loop, said loop having the upper transverse portion thereof correspondingly convexed, substantially as set forth.
