Description

(No Model.) A. G. KELLY 8?; G. W. WIMMER. A
LEMON SQUBEZBR.
' No. 276,424. Patented Apr.24,1 883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC".
ALBERT O. KELLY AND GEORGE W. WIMMER, OF SAN FRANGISOO, CALIFORNIA.
LEMON-SQUEEZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,424, dated April 24, 188
Application filed January 9, 1883. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBERT (J. KELLY and GEORGE W. WIMMER, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an improved Lemon-Sqneezer; and we hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Our invention relates to a compressing device which is especially applicable to squeezing lemons and extracting the juice therefrom, and for other similar purposes.
It consists of two jaws suitably'shaped to receive the lemon or other object. One of these jaws has two handles hinged to its sides, while the other has a stem extending back centrally between the handles, to which it is united by a knee-lever, so that when the handles are closed the two jaws will be made to approach each other, as will be more fully explained in the accompanying drawings, in whichi I Figure 1 is ajperspective view of our device. Fig. 2 is a modification.
A and B are the twojaws of alemon-squeezer. These jaws may be made of various shapes, as in the form of a 'barrel, of a lemon, or other fanciful shape. In Fig. l we have shown the jaw A as a continuous strip of suflicient width, having the back and sides approximately flat and the outer side'fcurved, as shown at a. The jaw B is curved similarly to the side a, and is short enough to move within the part A, between its sides.
Two handles, 0, are hinged to the opposite sides of the part A, extending back far enough to give the requisite leverage and power.
A stem, D, is fixed to the jaw B, and extends back through a hole in the rear portion of the part A, midway between the handles, so that the jaw B may move forward or back and be properly guided.
force the jaw B toward the curved part a of the jaw A with a gradually-increasing power as the angle between the arms E becomes more acute, thus producing a very efficient pressure.
In Fig. 2 we have shown the jaws A and B hinged together at the top, so that the lower edges may be separated to pick up a half lime or lemon to squeeze it without handling.
The handles are hinged to the jaw A, and the stem D in this case may have a joint attachment to the back of the jaw B to allow it to move easily about the hinge at the top when thejaws open.
Having thus described our invention, what.
we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A lemon-squeezer consisting of the jaws A B, in combination with the handles (3 O, hinged to one of the jaws, on opposite sides thereof, and the reciprocating stem D, connected with the other, the toggleconnection E E, uniting it with the handles, so that it will be moved to and from the opposite jaw by closing and opening the handles, substantially as herein described.
