WHIP-LASH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,319, dated March 6, 1883, Application filed December 4,1882. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, WALTER C. SOHRIEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Whip-Lashes; and I do here'- by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others in the art to which it appertains Referring to the accompanying drawings, in
which similar letters of reference indicate like parts in each of the several figures, Figure 1 is a View of my improvedwhip, and Fig. 2 a view of. the lash in course of construction.
In carryingout my invention, Iform the lash etc from leather or other appropriate material, and at a point about midway between the two ends, or, if preferable, nearer the whipstock, I make two or more longitudinal cuts, b, as shown in Fig. 2, forming three or more is in use.

The device thus constructedis of neat and novel design,is more durable, and can be mannfactored at a comparatively small cost.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new,-and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As an improved article of manufacture, a whip-lash having a braided portion therein, each end of the strands in said portion being integrally connected, all as herein set forth andshown.
