Description
R. J. NEWMAN Jan. 24, 1956 CALENDAR Filed March 4, 1953 RICHARD J NEWMAN INVENTOR.
FIGS
United States Patent CALENDAR Richard J. Newman, East Orange, N. J. Application March 4, 1953, Serial No. 340,339 1 Claim. (CI. 40-122) This invention relates to calendars and more particularly to desk calendars. An object of the present invention is to provide a desk calendar which embodies means for acquainting the user of definite recurring dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. More specifically, the calendar of the present invention combines, among other features, a holder for disposable sheets indicating the dates and days of the week, or month, as desired and means disposed in proximity to the disposable sheets for holding remembrance sheets carrying indicia indicating the month and days or weeks and days as desired upon which sheets may be entered suitable notations to indicate recurring important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The remembrance sheets are enclosed, being visible through a transparent covering and are rotated in exhibited position in accordance with the month or week.
Another novel feature or object of the present invention is the provision of disposal day and date indicating sheets, which when indicating the days of a week and their dates carries along one edge thereof recurring indications of the days of the week, with special indication of this week properly located to indicate the week prominently displayed on the disposal sheet and also to provide cutaway disposal sheets carrying only indication of the days of that week occurring at the end of any month so that the days of the same week occurring in the succeeding month are displayed on the successive disposal sheet.
With these and other objects in view, as may appear from the accompanying specification, the invention consists of various features of construction and combination of parts, which will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing a calendar of a preferred form embodying the invention, and the features forming the invention will be specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved calendar.
Figure 2 is an edge elevation of the improved calendar.
Figure 3 is a cross section Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating the manner of cutting away the disposal sheets so as to expose succeeding days of a succeeding month on the successive disposal sheet.
Figure 5 is a detail fragmentary section showing a slight modification of the calendar structure.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the improved calendar includes a carrying-supporting body 1 which is shown in the drawings as built up of connected pieces of any suitable material such as a rigid thermosetting plastic, metal or the like but it is to be understood that the carrying body 1 together with its supporting legs or feet 2 may be cast or formed all in one piece as taken on the line 3-3 of indicated in Figure 5 of 2,731,746 Patented Jan. 24, 1956 the drawings instead of being made of assembled sections.
The carrying-supporting body 1 is so constructed as to provide a depressed pocket 3 which opens out through the upper or exhibiting face of the supporting-carrying body. This pocket 3 receives a plurality of disposable sheets 4 which are shown in Figure l of the drawings as having printed thereon at the top the month of the year and the calendar printing for the preceding and succeeding months all as indicated at 5. The main body of the disposable sheets 4 are divided into seven sections 6 each bearing suitable indica shown at 7 to indicate the day of the week and the date. At the inner or lefthand edge of each sheet 4 is a series of indicia indicating the days of the Weeks of the month, that is, if a month dis played on the sheet contains four full weeks plus additional days the indicia strip 8 carries M T W T F S SU indications for the four weeks plus the additional dates. A blank strip 9 is provided on each of the sheets 4 and this strip carries at the proper position along the strip 8 the words this week. a
The pad of disposable sheets 4 are held firmly in place in the pocket 3 by an attaching tear strip 10 which engages the upper end of the topmost sheet of the pad and is attached to the supporting-carrying body 1 by suitable bolts 11 and nuts 12. This attaching tear strip 10 has a straight inner or lower edge so that when the week indicated on the exhibited disposal sheet 4 has passed this sheet may be quickly and easily torn from the pad.
If it is so desired, a spring 15 may be utilized in connection with the bolt 11 for firmly holding the disposable sheets 4 in place. This construction is shown in Figure 5 of the drawings wherein the bolts 11' which extend through the attaching tear strip 10' and through the disposable sheets 4 4 of the spring 15 coiled thereon be tween the nut 12' and the bottom of the supporting-carrying body 1. In this figure it will be noted that the supporting-carrying body 1 is shown as molded or otherwise formed of a single piece of material.
In instances where the month displayed ends in the middle of the week, such as shown in Figure 4 of the drawings, the disposable sheet 4 carrying or indicating the last days of the month exhibited and the first days of the week indicated has that portion which would normally carry the remaining days of the week cut away as clearly shown at 16 in Figure 4 of the drawings and thus the remaining days of the week constituting the first days of the succeeding month are exhibited on the next successive tear sheet. It will be noted by reference to Figure 4 that the strips 8 and 9 along the inner edge of the cut away disposal sheet are not cut away in this instance so as not to disturb the relationship from the day and week indications of those strips with the week exhibited by the two disposable sheets 4.
The supporting carrying body 1 has a second pocket 17 formed therein extending along the entire length of the disposal sheets 4 and this pocket has its exhibiting or upper side closed by a transparent sheet 18. The outer edge of the pocket 17 is open as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. Memorandum strips, one corresponding to each month of the year are placed in the pocket 17 with the strip corresponding to the month disposed on the exhibited disposal sheets on the top and visible through the transparent cover 18. These memoranda strips 18 may be formed of relatively heavy cardboard, sheet plastic or any other material which is durable so that they may be used for a number of years and rotated into exhibiting position to always have the memoranda strip corresponding to the month displayed by the disposal sheets in exhibiting positions. The memoranda strips 18 carry indicia or numbers rather corre spending to the dates of the days in that month and are provided with blank spaces alongside each number wherein may be written memorandums of birthdays, anniversaries, etc. which repeat each year so that the user of the calendar may 'by glancing at these memoranda sheets readily be reminded of the day and date of any such birthday, anniversary or the like.
The disposable sheets 4 rnay have spaces such as indicated at 20 thereon on which may be written memorandums of engagements or the "like for the respective day which do not recur year after year.
It will be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the specific construction -or arrangement of parts shown, but that they may be widely modified within the invention-defined by the claim.
What is claimed is:
In a calendar, a supporting-carrying 'body having a disposable sheet carrying portion and a removable memorandum blank receiving pocket extending entirely along one side of said disposable sheet carrying portion, said receiving pocket having a transparent cover and having its outer edge open to receive memorandum blanks, 'a plurality of individual memorandum receiving blanks removably and interchangeably stacked in said pocket, a plurality of disposable day and date indicating sheets carried by said sheet carrying portion in stacked relationship, said blanks "being of a length equal to the length of the disposablesheets anddisposed in longitudinal-edgeto-edge relationship therewith, said disposable sheets having a series of designations of days of the week along the edge thereof adjacent to said pocket and date-indicating numbers on said memorandum blanks along their edge portions adjacent to said disposable sheets, said disposable sheets having indicia thereon cooperating with the days of the week indicia to indicate the specific week the days and dates of which are indicated on the respective disposable sheet, said memorandum blanks and said disposable sheets having coacting strip portions along their adjacent edges of substantially equal Width and length, certain of said disposable sheets having portions thereof cut away to exhibit certain predetermined portions of the disposable wsheet therebelow, said portions so cut away as to leave said coacting strips along their edges intact.
