Description

SPECIFICATION Perpetual calender assembly This invention is directed to a perpetual calender arrangement and construction. It pertains particularly to a calender which is arranged to show the month, week days and numbered days, and to display cards containing relevant daily information and to provide storage for small items for daily needs.
Perpetual calender and reminder devices are well known and have been generally available for many decades. Typical examples of some such calender devices are described by U.S. Patent No.
384,526 to Isbell; U.S. No. 792,641 to Wilber; U.S. No. 2,588,795 to Bauer, and U.S. No.
3,207,421 to Hunger et al. Although these prior art calender configurations have been found generally useful, the calendars have been unnecessarily complicated to use and have had certain limitations in their general utility. Such limitations are advantageously overcome by the present invention.
The present invention provides a perpetual calendar arrangement and construction for showing the month, week days and numbered days, and for displaying notes and memoranda.
The calendar comprises a relatively rigid backing structure having on its front side at least 46 rectangular shaped transparent pockets arranged in rows in a specific pattern and permanently secured to the backing. The calendar can be used free standing as on a table, or it can be hung on a wall or door using at least two holes located near the upper edge of the backing. The calendar is preferably formed foldable along a vertical middle line for convenient desk use or for carrying by the user.
The rear side of the backing has at least one pocket made of opaque material and permanently secured to the backing, such pocket is used for storing papers of various types. The rear pocket(s) can be openable from either the top or the outer side of the calendar. It has been found most convenient and preferred to have four such sideopening pockets provided on the rear side of the calendar. The calendar backing is made of a smooth, attractive and wear-resistant material such as plastic or imitation leather. The calendar may be constructed in various useful sizes, such as about 1 8-24 inches long, 14-1 8 inches wide, and 0.062 inch thich.
The principal features of the invention are directed to a perpetual calendar used for displaying dates and daily information on cards comprising: a supporting backing structure having a front side and a rear side; an upper transparent pocket attached to the front side of said backing for containing monthly cards; a horizontal row of seven transparent pockets on the front side, each containing a week-day card; a series of transparent pockets attached to the front side of said backing, said pockets being arranged in five horizontal rows and seven vertical rows, each pocket labelled with a number and arranged in numerical order, the first row being numbered 1 through 7, the second row numbered 8 through 14, the third row numbered 1 5 through 21, the fourth row number 22 through 28 and the fifth row numbered 29 through 31; and said fifth row also having four pockets for containing perpetual reminder cards and daily reminder cards, m;scellaneous and annual calendar. There are also three pockets on the right hand side of numbered pockets for emergency numbers, frequently called numbers, and for pens and pencils.
Advantages provided by the perpetual calendar construction include keeping a permanent record of dates which recur periodically on the same day each year (birthdays, anniversaries, religious days, dates for paying taxes, mortgages, interest, insurance premiums, dividend receipts, etc.) plus daily appointments (business, doctors, dentists, beauty parlor, lawyers, wedding, theatre tickets, subscription tickets, graduations, and all social functions). The calendar can also conveniently store messages and miscellaneous lists, and provide a constant reminder of recurring dates and daily appointments, such as social, professional and business.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is an isometric drawing showing the perpetual calendar when in a folded position.
Fig. 2 shows the front side of the perpetual calendar and showing pockets containing month, weekday, and numbered day information, plus storage pockets.
Fig. 3 shows a cross-sectional view of the calendar taken along section 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is another sectional view of the calendar taken along section 4-4 of Fig. 2.
The invention will now be described more fully by referring to Fig. 1, which generally shows the perpetual calendar 40 comprising a relatively rigid backing 42 having a front side and a rear side in a folded position. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the calendar front side contains multiple pockets 44 arranged in order to display the month, weekdays, and the monthly dates, the date pockets used for storing cards containing information about permanent and daily dates. The calendar front side also contains pockets 48 used for storing Emergency Telephone Numbers, Frequently called numbers, pens and pencils, annual calendar, blank permanent record cards, blank daily record cards, and miscellaneous lists. The calendar front side contains at least forty-two pockets 44 made of transparent plastic material. The pockets are so constructed to be expandable so as to hold several cards, and are permanently attached to the backing, such as by: bonding, adhesion, or stitching at 45. The backing comprises a smooth construction material, preferably an opaque leather-like material such as vinyl plastic. Three holes 46 are provided along the calendar upper edge for use in hanging the calendar from a wall or door. The calendar preferably has dimensions which are approximately 20 inches long by 16 inches high by 0.060 inches thick.
A transparent pocket 50 is located about 1.75 inch from the top edge and 1.5 inch from the left hand edge of the calendar. The pocket 50 is about 3.5 inches long by 1 inch high and is used to hold a card 51 indicating the month of the year.
Twelve cards each labelled with a different month are stored in this pocket.
About 0.5 inch below the month pocket 50 and starting at the left hand edge of the construction and extending about sixteen inches across the board, there are provided seven transparent pockets 52 each about 2.5 inches long by 0.5 inches high, each opening at the top and each containing a tabbed card 53 indicating by name a day of the week. individual transparent pockets 54, of which there are thirty-four in number are located 1.5 inches below the weekdays pockets starting at the left hand edge, each is 2.25 inches high and all open at the top, there is also provided a transparent pocket 2.5 inches long and 2.25 inches high plus another transparent pocket 2.5 inches long by 4.5 inches high and still another transparent pocket 5 inches long by 2.5 inches high. These additional pockets open at the top only, and are permanently fixed to the calendar in the following configuration: There are five horizontal rows of numbered pockets. The first row starts with the number 1 and ends with 7, plus one pocket 55 labelled Emergency Numbers. The second row starts with the number 8 and ends with 14 plus one pocket 56 labelled Frequently Called Numbers. The third row begins with number 15 and ends with 21, plus one transparent pocket 57 about 2.5 inches long by 4.5 inches high labelled Pens and Pencils.
The fourth row begins with number 22 and ends with 28. The fifth and bottom row is number 29, 30, and 31, plus one pocket 58 labelled Perpetual Reminder Cards, one pocket 59 labelled Daily Reminder Cards, and one pocket 60, labelled messages, Miscellaneous, and one pocket 61, 5 inches long by 2.25 inches high labelled Annual Calendar.
The numbers and letters are permanently attached to the pockets such as by painting or printing. Each pocket has a buff colored card inserted therein. The numbered pockets are used to store or file permanent and Daily dates which are noted on cards about 3 inches high by 1.8 inches wide. Two different colored cards are used in the numbered pockets; blue cards for perpetual dates and reminders and white cards for daily appointments, messages, miscellaneous lists, etc.
All cards with notations of dates and appointments are maintained in chronological order in the correct date pocket.
Each month, the card for the month is changed and the Days of the Week cards are shifted in a manner so that the first name day of a particular month is placed above the number 1 pocket. Also, each month, the cards filed in the pockets are checked and the cards for the current month are placed in the front of the buff colored card which divides current activities from future events so that only dates for the current month are visible.
The calendar is designed for conveniently hanging on a wall or door, or any convenient location selected by its user employing holes 46, and also for desk and counter-top use, with both sides of the calender being functional.
The calendar is foldable along vertical lines 62 in the middle between numbered pockets 4 and 5, so that the daily numbered pockets are enclosed by rigid backing, as shown in Fig. 4. On the back side of the perpetual calendar are opaque pockets 64, preferbaly two on each half.
These pockets are permanently attached to the backing at line 65, such as be adhesion or by bonding or stitching to construction on three sides, with the fourth side preferably opening toward the outside edge of the calendar. These pockets are for storing various papers, such as: invitations, bills, timetables, messages, instructions, coupons, or for any other purpose the user desires.
