Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL BACH AND K. KRENKEL, 0F NEV YORK, N. Y.
FOLDING BEDSTEAD.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 27,263, dated February 28, 1860.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DANIEL BACI-1 and KASIMIR KRENKEL, both of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Bedsteads; and we hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure I represents a part of the bed when unfolded ready for use. Fig. II represents the same when folded up.
The nature of our invention consists in the application and use of a self operating catch, for the purpose of securing the side rails in their proper places and to hold the same fast, when the bed is unfolded for use.
A represents part of a foot of a bedstead to which the rail B is attached by means of the pin fn, upon which the rail is made to turn. is a catch attached on the inside of the bed post to the same, swinging easily upon a pin, a, and made with a recess into which the end of the rail B fits.
l/Vhen the bed is unfolded and put up for use, the end of the rail B pushes the catch, C,
away until said end comes into the recess of the catch when the latter falls by its own weight, so as embrace the end of the rail and holds the same firm in its place. When the bed requires to be folded together the catch, C, is pushed away clear of the end of the rail, when the bed may be folded together in the usual way. To prevent the catch from shaking loose when the bed is moved about a small spring, cl, is provided, to keep the same in its place.
7e do not claim a bedstead which may be folded together when not in use as such bedsteads are well known and in quite common use but What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The application and-use of a self acting catch, C, to secure and hold the side rail B -in the proper place, when the bedstead is put up for use, in the manner substantially
