JOHN r. KOCH, OF NEW YORK, NY.
FOLDING BEDSTEAD.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 26,598, dated December 27, 1859;`
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN P; Koen, of
I New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Bedsteads; and I do,
hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, re erence` being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure I represents a longitudinal section of a bedstead when unfolded ready for use, and Fig. II showsthe same when folded up.
The nature of my invention consists in the combined operation of an eccentric cam` and shoulder, both situated below the rail,`
for the purpose of securing the side rails in their proper place, and at the same time to relieve the pin upon which the side lrail turns, when the bedstead is in` an unfolded position.
A, are the feet of the bedstead to which the rails B are attached by means of pins,
C, in the usual manner, and capable oftnrn-` ing on the same, for the purpose of folding the bedsteadtogether, when not in use.
D is a foot in the middle of the bedstead to` which the rails are likewise jointed, and which supports the center of the same when unfolded and in use.
s, is a small projection `or shoulder` fast to l the inner sideof the bedposts Ajupon which` the rails rest when unfolded.` y ,n
E is an eccentric camturning ona pin, p, and operated bythe lever Fi y 11; -When the bedstead siunfolded the rails? B will come to rest uponthe `shouldersv01. l, I, projections, s, and Uthenthe ecoentricfE isl ,i ,y brought into an upright position and forced under the end ofthe` rails B soas to `fasten 1" y and support the same, and atzthesame time" take the strain olf the pins,1C,fon,which,1the"` rails turn. n Q I do not claim a3bedstead :whichmaybet 3 folded together, nor do Iiclaimafshoulder` to support the rail when unfolded, but
What I claim as my invention `and desire to secure by Letters Patentis-m` t The combined arrangement ofthe ,shoulnder, s, and eccentric,1`E`,"both"situated belowf the rails and insidethelbedsteadlto securef the side rails in theirproper `place when the` bedsteadis unfolded, and at the same timefto relieve the pins, C, of the strain inftheman l ner and for `the `purpose substantially," as` f HENRY E. BORDER,` JAMES DAVIDSON.
