Definitions
- My invention consists in a device by which the cords of a folding clothes frame may be tightened at pleasure without previous loosening and without requiring to be either shortened or changed in position, the same device also allowing the feet of the frame to be adjusted to suit an uneven floor.
- My invention further consists in construct ing the frame of a rhomboidal in preference to the now used rectangular shape, the said rhomboidal shape offering greater facilities for removal through doorways, &c., with the same surface presented on which to hang clothes.
- Figure I is a perspective view of the frame or rack.
- Fig. 2 is a View of the frame when folded.
- Fig. 3 is a plan.
- A is the center post of frame on which, near the top, a series of notches are formed on each of its sides. Pivoted, one on each side of the post A near' the bottom, are the four arms B, B, and C, C. Hinged or pivoted to the sides of the arms B, C, are the pawls or braces D, and E. The arms and pawls B, and D, are longer than C, and E, in order that when stretched into position the cords F, which are fastened on the sides of the arms, may present a rhomboidal form.
Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLIVER C. GREEN, OF DUBLIN, INDIANA.
CLOTHES-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 25,820, dated October 18, 1859.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER C. GREEN, of Dublin, Wayne county, Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes Racks or Frames, and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention consists in a device by which the cords of a folding clothes frame may be tightened at pleasure without previous loosening and without requiring to be either shortened or changed in position, the same device also allowing the feet of the frame to be adjusted to suit an uneven floor.
My invention further consists in construct ing the frame of a rhomboidal in preference to the now used rectangular shape, the said rhomboidal shape offering greater facilities for removal through doorways, &c., with the same surface presented on which to hang clothes.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is a perspective view of the frame or rack. Fig. 2 is a View of the frame when folded. Fig. 3 is a plan.
A is the center post of frame on which, near the top, a series of notches are formed on each of its sides.
The ends of the pawls fit the notches a of the center post, and when it is necessary that the cords should be tightened the pawls have only to be moved down the post in lower notches and t-he object is accomplished. When the feet of the frame do not bear equally on the ground, a slight adjustment of one or more pawls effects an equal bearmg.
I claim as new and of my invention herein and desire to secure by Letters Patent z- The combination and arrangement of the center post A ci, arms B, C, and braces D, E, operating in the manner and for the purposes set fort-h.
In testimony of which invention, I hereunto set my hand.
OLIVER C. GREEN.
