To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ISAAC G. BOWER and LEWIS B. MYERS, of Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Oatapults; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart ofthis specification, and in which-- Figure l is a perspective view of our improved sling or toy catapult. Fig. 2 is a plan [5 view of the rubber band or spring detached from the handle. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectionof the handle, and Fig. 4 is a cross-section through one of the slottedfork-arms, showing the manner of attaching the rubber 120 band.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Our invention relates to toy slings or toy catapults 5 and it consists in the detailed construction and combination of parts of a toy of that class as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

as shownat B. The arms B are made wide at their converging bases, where they are attached to the handle, gradually tapering to 40 the top, which gives them increased strength and rigidity.

O is a rubber bandcut from a sheet of rubber, so as to form a central fiat circular disk or enlargement, D. The ends of this band or strap are attached to the fork B B by insert- 5 ing them through the slots or split parts B in the direction of the handle and then doubling or folding the band around itself and around the split arms, as shown more clearly in Fig. 4 of the drawings. This causes the ends of the band to bind firmly when it is being stretched, so that there is no danger ofits slipping oft, while at the same time this mode of fastening permits of its ready and easy removal when desired.

In using the toy the missile is placed in the middle of the central enlarged part, D, of the band, which, in stretching the band for shooting, forms a sort of pouch. The curvature of the handle provides for the easy and conven- 6o ient holding of the toy, the thumb being placed longitudinally on the top of the handle, and

also facilitates the operation of taking aim.

We prefer to use a hollow malleable iron handle, as described, for the convenience which it offers as a missile-receptacle; but, if desired, a solid handle may be used, or a skeleton handle of any approved construction.

We claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The toy sling or catapult herein shown and described, consisting of the curved handle A, fork B, having split or slotted ends B, and detachable elastic band 0, inserted through and doubled on itself around said ends, and pro- 1 vided with the central flat enlargement, D,all

constructed and combined substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
