1 Claim.
This invention relates to an article in the form of a shield designed primarily for use during hair cutting, shampooing or treatments of the head and hair, the primary object of the invention being to provide an article of this character constructed preferably of toweling material and provided with means whereby the article may be removably secured in position during shampooing or hair treatments, and then may be reversed and secured by tying so that it will not become loose and fall to the floor during the drying of the hair or other treatments of the hair wherein the head is necessarily caused to move which would ordinarily cause the shield to become displaced.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating an article or shield, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view illustrating a modified form of the invention showing a reversible shield.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view illustrating a modified form of the invention.
Fig. 4 is an elevational view of the shield illustrating the extensions of the shield as constructed of yleldable material.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 55 of Fi 4.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the shield comprises a body portion 5 which is constructed of toweling material and is preferably of a size of a large towel.
Disposed along one side edge of the body portion, is a curved extension 6 providing ends 1 to which the ties 8 are secured, the curved extension being of a construction to provide a collar which completely encircles the neck of the person on which the shield is positioned.
By this construction, it will be obvious that the body portion or shield may be securely tied around the neck, and the shoulders of the person having the shampoo, permanent or other treatment, will be completely protected against moisture or heat, the shield being held so that it will not become displaced during the treatment.
In the form of the invention as shown by Fig.
2 of the drawing, the body portion which is indicated by the reference character 5' is also constructed of toweling material, and is provided with a curved extension 6 disposed intermediate the ends of the body portion and extending from one side edge thereof. The curved extension 6 provides the ends I to which the ties 8' are secured.
At the opposite side edge of the body portion, is the extension 9', the ends 10 thereof being of lengths to permit them to be tucked or folded under the dress or garment, to hold the shield in place during the treatment.
After the treatment, which may involve the shampooing of the hair, the shield may be reversed for drying, that is the curved extension 6' may be brought into play and positioned around the neck of the person undergoing the treatment, the ties 8' being tied around the neck to hold the body portion in position during the drying operation, so that the shield cannot become displaced and fall to the floor during this treatment which usually requires the moving around of the person undergoing treatment and which frequently causes the shield or ordinary towel used by hairdressers or barbers, to fall to the floor, requiring a clean towel in order to complete the operation or treatment.
In the form of the invention as shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings, the shield is provided with extensions i 5 which embody elastic threads l6, designed to provide a yleldable structure which will permit of expansion of the extensions IE, to permit the device to be adjustably secured around the neck of a person wearing the device, or permit the device to be reversed, that is with the main or body portion of the shield, either to the back or the front of the person adapting the device for various purposes or uses.
While I have shown the body portion of the shield of various shapes, it is to be understood that the size and shape of the body portion of the shield may be varied to meet various requirements of use, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
It will further be pointed out that with the elastic extensions shown in sheet 2 of the drawing, non-elastic tapes such as indicated by the reference character I1 may be used in securing the shield to the person.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, and particularly the structure shown by Fig. 2, I have provided a guard or shield which when it becomes wet from the shampooing treatment, may be 3 reversed to bring the dry portion of the guard or shield to the point adjacent to the neck and the guard or shield tied in place to prevent displacement during the completion of the treatment.
In view of the foregoing detailed description, it is believed that a further disclosure of the inventlon is unnecessary.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A shield of the class described, comprising a length of cloth material having straight side and end edges, an extension integrally formed on one edge of the cloth material intermediate the ends thereof and having a concave longitudinal edge extending in the general direction of the said edge of the cloth material and curved side edges, the ends of the extension extending at acute References Cited in the tile of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS Name Date Mele Aug. 16, 1938 Elson Oct. 3, 1939 Brown July 29, 1941 Heyser Oct. 20, 1942 Morganti Sept. 11, 1951 Number
