PATENT orrlca.
HAIR WAVER.
Application flled June 27, 1927. Serial No. 201,705.
This invention relates to hair wavers, and is primarily intended for water waving of the hair, although the invention is susceptible of use in other connections.
The object thereof is for the better securing the combs and the hair' in a fixed posi tion, without the use of hair nets or the like.
A. further object is the making of a better wave.
A still further object is the simplicity in construction and its ap lication.
In the use of combs or water waving of the hair, it is customary to provide a pa1r of curved combs, the hair is moistened, and the combs are then inserted in the hair with their teeth adjoining, the hair is raised or arranged between the combs as desired, and when the required number of such waves have been made, a hair net or the like is firmly applied tokeep the combs and hair in osition until the hair becomes dry.
181 many instances it is hard to keep the combs andhair in proper position when moving about, especially if the occupants hair is not heavy or of a fine texture.
My invention consists of a pair of combs made to conform to a bar and pivotally connected or hinged to one end of same, said bar preferably curved to the contour of the head, having pockets or openings in the sides for receiving the teeth of said combs, the base or lower portion of the sides below the ockets is preferably of greater width than t e portion above, said projection to extend around both ends of the bar, for the purpose of hinging or pivotally connecting and supporting the ends of the combs, the outer sides of the projection or base extending along the sides are slightly inclined, for the purpose of guiding the teeth of the combs to the pockets, and the projection is for supporting the ribs or backs of the combs when in closed and operative position. In its application after the hair has been moistened the bar is inserted under the hair to be waved, keeping the hair in a raised position, the combs are then closed or brought together, the teeth passing throu h the hair mto the pockets of the bar, is e resilient means on the end of one comb is placed over the projecture on the end of the other, keepin themin closed and operative position.
the drawing wherein is illustrated a perspectwe view of my invention, 1 indicates the upper slde of a preferably curved bar made smooth and slightly oval with all of the edges rounded for preventing the cuttmg and breaklng of the hair, 2 is the pocket or opening 111 the sides of the bar for receivmg the teeth of the combs 6 and 7, 3 is the base of the bar preferably extending outward and downward beyond the upper side face, for the purpose of acting as a guide for the teeth of the combs and a support for the nb or back of the combs when closed in operative position, t is the end of the bar with support and pivotal attachment with ends 8 of each of the combs, 5 is the end of bar opposite from pivotal or hinged end and made to support the ends of the combs, 6 is one of the combs made to conform with the side opening 2 in the bar, 7 is comb opposite from 6 and made to conform with opening 2 1n the bar, 8 are the ends of the combs with provisions for hinging or pivotal attaching with the bar at 4, 9 is end of comb 6 preferably with flexible means for attaching with end of comb 7, 10 is end of comb 7 having a pro ection for attaching with flexible means 9 of comb 6 when in closed and operative position.
It is to be understood that the bar can be made straight or curved to fit the contour of the head, and the combs are to conform to the pockets and the bar, and to be made of any suitable metal or material and any size.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A hair waver comprising abar and a pair of combs, said bar having pockets or side openings for receiving the teeth of said combs, said bar having a projecture around its base for a guide and support for'said combs, one end of said combs being hinged or pivoted to one end of said bar with the opposite ends of said combs having means for securing them in closed and operative position with said bar.
2. A hair waver comprising a curved bar and a pair of combs conforming with same, said bar having pockets or side openings for receiving the teeth of said combs, said bar having a projecture around its base for a guide and support for said combs, one end of said combs being hinged or pivoted to one end of said bar, with the opposite ends of said combs having means for securin them directed towards said bar, means pivotally in closed and operative position wit said mounting each comb for swinging movement 1 bar. i to bring its teeth into or out of one of said 3. A hair waver comprising a bar shaped slots and means for retaining each comb in 6 to conform to the general outlines of the fixed relation to the bar with its teeth in the human head and provided with slots o -enrespective slot. ing inwardly from opposite edges of the ar, In testimony whereof I afiix m signature. a plurality of combs, each having its teeth JOSEPHINE E. SCH RGEB.
