BED FRAME BRAGE. No, 264,625. Patent ed Sept. 19, 1.882.

UNITED STATES CHESTER C. CLARK, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
BROWNWOOD, TEXAS.
BED-FRAME BRACE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 264,625, dated September 19, 1882,
Application filed February 16, 1882.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, CHESTER C. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, resident of Browir wood, in the county of Brown and State of Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bed-Frame Braces; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a partial perspective view of a bed-frame having my improved braces. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the hook and eye-screws; and Fig. 3 is a plan View of the bed-frame with the slats, hooks, &c., in place.
This invention has relation to devices for bracing bedsteads; and it consists in providing a transverse slat at each of its ends with a pair of diverging hooks, the same to be connectedto the rail on each side by means of screw-eyes, and thereby preventing the bedstead from spreading, bracing it transversely and obliquely, all as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanyingdrawings, the letter A designatesthe side rails of a bedstead, and B the slats thereof, arranged transversely in the usual notches or seats, 0, of the rails.
My improvement is designed to be applied at about the middle of the bedstead, and to this end one of the intermediate slats is provided at each end with a pair of hooks, d (1, these being about eight inches long and made by preference of No. 8 steel wire. These hooks (No model.)
are connected to the slat a few inches from its extremity by means of screw-eyes or staples e, inserted in the edges of the slat, which eyes or staples e engage the eyes 9 of said hooks. WVhen the slat, which should fit its rail notches or seats a closely, is in place, the hooks are extended obliquely to the rail on each side, and are connected to screw-eyes h, which are fastened in said rail on each side of the Slatseatc, as indicated in the drawings.
\Vhen this bracing device is arranged as hereinbefore described the side rails are held firmly, and cannot spread apart. The bedstead is, furthermore, because of the oblique position of the hooks, held in its proper shape when being moved about the room, so that the corner fastenings are not liable to be weakened or broken.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a bed'frame, the combination, with the side rails, A, having screw-eyes h on each side of the seat-slat 0, ot' the intermediate slat, I), and its hooks (I, connected to its edges by screw-eyes or staples e and extending obliquely to the screweyes h, whereby the bed-frame is braced transversely and obliquely, substantially as specified In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence
