UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHAIR Csar Victorino J annello, Buenos Aires, Argentina Application January 28, 1947, Serial No. 724,750
3 Claims.
My present invention refers to a novel chair structure.
One object of my present invention is to provide a simple elastic and resistant support structure for chairs which is of relatively low cost and easy to manufacture and which consists of a single bar of round iron bent in such a manner as to :provide the legs of the chair, the rests of the chair seat, and means for mounting the back-rest of the chair.
Another object of my invention is to provide a chair structure, comprising a seat, a support consisting of a single bar of round iron, and a back-rest mounted on the free ends of said bar, the arrangement of these parts being such that only a few cramps are necessary for assembling the chair.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a chair structure, comprising a seat of wood or any other suitable material, a support for said seat consisting of a single bar of round iron simply bent in zigzag so as to provide a number of bottom knees for supporting the chair and a number of upper knees for carrying said seat, and a back-rest provided with a pair of guide grooves and a pair of diverging channels for receiving the free ends of said bar and for thus mounting said back-rest on said free ends of this bar.
My invention further consists in the details of construction and arrangement of parts as will be fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the chair structure according to my invention,
Figure 2 is a detail view showing in sectional elevation the back-rest of the chair structure of Fig. 1.
With reference to the accompanying drawing,
, a chair seat I of wood or any other suitable material is carried by a support 2 which according to my invention is made of a single elongated member, such as a bar of round iron.
The round iron bar 2 is simply bent seven times in zigzag as shown so as to form four legs 3 and three rests 4 for the seat l suitably fixed in place onsaid rests as by cramps 5 or the like.
The free ends of the round iron bar 2 extend upwards and are interconnected by means of a back-rest 6 which for this purpose comprises a cut-out portion 1 provided at the side edges thereof with grooves 8 which at their upper ends communicate with diverging channels 9 cut into grooves 8 are of sufiicient Width to receive and retain the upper portions of the bar 2 immediately below the bent ends 2 thereof, so that the back-rest remains fixedly secured to the free ends of the bar 2.
Due to the nature of this bar of round iron 2 and of the support structure as described, the chair has sufiicient elasticity to secure a comfortable seating.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A chair comprising a seat, a back-rest, a single elongated member bent in zig-zag fashion providing four legs for supporting the chair and three rests for supporting said seat, and means securing said seat to said rests, said back-rest having a pair of spaced diverging channels, the free ends of said member extending upwards and outwardly above said seat and being disposed within said channels whereby said back-rest is maintained in fixed relation thereto.
2. A chair comprising a seat, a back-rest, a single elongated member having a :plurality of bends arranged in zig-zag fashion, thereby providing a plurality of legs for supporting the chair and a plurality of rests for supporting said seat, and means for securing said seat to said rests, said back-rest comprising a cut-out portion, guide grooves cut into the side edges of said cut-out portion and a pair of diverging channels communicating with said grooves at the upper ends of the latter, said grooves and said channels receiving the free ends of said member for mounting the back-rest on said free ends.
3. A chair comprising a seat, a back-rest, a single elongated member having a plurality of bends arranged in zig-zag fashion, thereby providing a plurality of legs for supporting the chair and a :plurality of rests for supporting said seat, and means securing said seat to said rests, said back-rest having a pair of spaced diverging channels, the free ends of said member extending upwards and outwardly above said seat and being disposed within said channels whereby said backrest is maintained in fixed relation thereto.
