This invention relates to an improved display package of the transparent window-type in which an article enclosed by the package is retained in an 'efiective display position opposite the transparent window by an article-holding insert which also improves the general appearance of the package.
According to this invention, the article-holding insert is arranged on the bottom Wall of an outer ca'sing'having its top and side'portions formed by a one-piecewall-forming member provided with a window opening and with a permanently attached sheet of transparent material covering side opening. The insert is formed with upstanding article positioning end members which are held in place by end closure members of the outer casing and which, in turn, serve to retain the packaged article in a display position in which the whole length of the article is exhibited through the display window to a person looking directly to ward the tip or side of the package. The insert also improves the general appearance of the package by concealing raw or unfinished inner surfaces of the outer casing that would otherwise be seen through the Window opening.
The article-holding insert provided in accordance with the invention may comprise a tray having a bottom article-supporting wall resting flatly on the bottom wall of the outer casing or itmay be designed to provide an article-supporting platform lying above and parallel with the bottom wall of the casing. The platform type of insert positions the article closer to the top of the transparent window of the package and enables the article to be displayed to somewhatbetter advantage as compared with the tray type of insert.
The-wall-forming member which provides the top and side portions of the outer casing of the package may be sent along predetermined lines of fold to provide fiat right-angularly related top and side portions, or it may be curved over and across the bottom wall of the package in a continuous curve to provide an upwardly arched wall structure forming the top and side portions of the package. In either case, the upstanding end portions of the insert and the end closure members of the outer casing are shaped to conform to the contour of the wall member constituting the top and side portions of the outer casing.
The foregoing and other characteristics of the invention are illustrated by several preferred embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of display package provided in accordance with the invention.
