1 Claim.

This invention relates to improvements in condiment dispensing devices and more especially to salt and pepper shakers of the type shown and described in my abandoned application Serial No. 581,379, filed March 7, 1945, and entitled Condiment Dispenser.

One of the principal objects of the present invention is to provide an article of this character which is of simple durable and inexpensive construction and which may be manufactured by any of the modern methods of molding or casting and readily assembled into compact form and conveniently operated to dispense the salt or the pepper.

These and other objects will appear as my invention is more fully hereinafter described in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and finally pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure l is a top plan view of a dispensing device made in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a top plan view of a modified form of the invention.

Figures 3 and 4 are side elevations of Figures 1 and 2, respectively, with fragments broken away and parts in section for convenience of illustration.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing. In Figure 3, reference numeral l indicates the main body of the device which is of hollow cylindrical form. The bottom wall 2 of the body member is provided with a centrally located boss 3 which is apertured and threaded as at 4 to receive one end of a shaft 5. The upper end of the shaft is in threaded engagement as at 6 with a boss 7 depending from the top wall of a cap 8 which is seated in the upper end of the body member i and held in place by the shaft 5. The top wall 9 of the cap is formed with a concentric ring I!) which forms a seat and also a seal for the upper end of a cylinder II which constitutes the chamber for the pepper. The lower end of the cylinder fits securely over the boss 3 to seal the pepper chamber from the area between said chamber and the wall of the main body member which constitutes the salt chamber l2.

To the top wall 9 of the cap I pivotally mount, as at I 3 by means of an upwardly extending boss I3A, a disc l4 formed with a flange l which surrounds the upper portion of the cap 8. The disc I4 is provided with a plurality of apertures 15A adapted when rotated to register with apertures I6 in the top wall 9 of the cap 8 for dispensing the p pp The disc I4 is also provided with apertures H which when rotated will register with apertures 18 surrounding the salt chamber for dispensing the salt.

For convenience in aligning and disaligning both series of apertures, I provide a limit stop in the form of a slot l9 formed in the disc [4 and movable with respect to a projection 20 formed on the top 9 of the cap 8. Thus a user has to merely rotate the cap until either end of the limit stop is reached to open or seal off both series of apertures.

In the modified form of the invention shown in Figure 4 the main body member 2|, cap 22, disc 23, pepper cylinder 24, pepper dispensing apertures 25 and salt apertures 26,sealing ring 21, and boss 28 are all identical with the corresponding elements shown in Figur 3 except that I' eliminate the shaft 5 and attach the cap 22 to the upper end of the body member 2| by a threaded engagement 29 and pivotally attach the disc 23 to the top wall of the cap 22 by means of a pivot 30. The disc 23 and the top of the cap are pro-- vided with the same type of limit stop and projection respectively, as that shown in Figures 1 and 3. The pepper cylinder 24 is pressed into sealed engagement with the boss 28 and within the sealing ring 21 by the advancement of the cap 22 in its threaded engagement as at 29 with the threads on the interior of the body member.

While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A condiment dispenser comprising in combination, a hollow cylindrical body member closed at its bottom end by an integrally formed bottom wall having a centrally disposed upwardly extending boss formed thereon, said boss having an internally threaded vertical bore formed therein, a cylindrical cap closed atone of its ends and reduced in outside diameter at its opposite open end for a forced fit within the upper end of said cylindrical body member, a boss formed integral with and depending from the under side of said closed end of the cap, an upwardly extending boss formed on the top side of said closed end of the cap, each boss having an internally threaded vertical bore formed therein, a concentric retaining ring formed on the underside of said closed end of said cap, apertures formed through said closed end of the cap, an apertured disc having a central opening formed therein by which said disc is rotatably mounted upon the closed end of the cap and about said last mentioned upwardly extending boss, a retaining screw secured within said internally threaded vertical bore in said upwardly extending boss for maintaining said disc in operative engagement with the closed end of said cap, a downwardly extending peripheral flange formed integral with said disc and surrounding said cylindrical cap, a cylinder of greater length than said cylindrical body member and having its lowermost end engaged with said boss formed on said bottom wall of said cylindrical body member and its opposite or upper end engaged within said retaining ring, a shaft threaded at both of its ends and engaged with the threaded bore in said depending boss and with the threaded bore in the boss on said bottom wall of said body member whereby said cap may be advanced on the threads on one end of said shaft for firmly engaging the cap with the cylindrical body member and said cylinder with said retaining ring and with the bottom Wall of said cylindrical body member.
