Abstract

854,867. Tea infusers. SHAW, C. S. May 27, 1959 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 30646/58. Class 129 A tea infuser comprises a container 3 formed at least partly of gauge 12 in which tea is retained by a closure member 8, the container being permanently secured either directly, or indirectly to a rod 4 which passes up through a tea pot lid 2 and has a knob 6 or the like at its upper end so that the container can be moved through the water in the tea pot. As shown, Fig. 1, the container 3 is elongated.and has on its lower end a cover 8 held by a nut 9 and located in position by apertures engaging pins 11. The rod 4 and an element 5 mounted in lid 2 have co-operating coarse screw threads so that as the rod 4 is reciprocated, container 3 is rotated. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the container is mounted at the lower end of a sleeve secured to the tea pot lid and enclosing the rod biassing spring. As shown in Fig. 4 a circular container 3 is mounted on rod 4 which slides in a sleeve 5 mounted in lid 2. The cover 81 has handles 34 and a central boss with an aperture 31 which, on being engaged over projections 32 on the lower end of a rod 33 is turned so as to be held in position by the projections. In a modification of the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the container may have an arcuate door in its side instead of the cover 8. In an embodiment with a circular rotary container, vanes may be provided within the container to promote circulation of the water. As shown, Fig. 10, the container may be mounted on a pivoted member 6 to which a spring biassed rod 62 is connected.
