Description

856,064. PATENTED JUNE 4, 1907.
H. W. JACKSON. COMBINATION SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER.
APPLIOATION FILED JAN.9. 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
COMBINATION SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1907.
Application filed JanuaryZQ, 1907. Serial No. 361,648.
To (LU whom it may anneal-71,5
Be it known that I, IIARVEY W. JACKSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Weed, in the county of Siskiyou and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combination Salt and Pepper Shaker, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combined salt and pepper shakers, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide simple means whereby the pepper container may be centered within the salt cellar.
Another object of the invention is to provide a rigid cover and a movable cover for said salt and pepper receptacles whereby either salt or pepper may be dispensed in a simple manner.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined salt and pepper shaker made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section. Fig. 4 is an underside plan view of one of the perforated disks.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the salt shaker which may be made of glass or other suitable material, and 2 is the pepper container, the latter being provided with a base flange 3 which fits within the salt shaker 1 with the periphery of said flange lying against the inner wall of the salt shaker 1 to properly center the pepper container. A perforated disk 4 is provided with a flange 5 which fits over the pepper container 2 and said disk being provided with a series of perforations 6 which overlie the salt compartment 7, and a series of smaller perforations 8 disposed above the top of the pepper chamber 9. Pivotally connected to the disk 4 is a cap or cover 10, said cap or cover having aseries of perforat ions 1 1 of similar size to those designated by 6, and disposed above the salt chamber 7.
A series of pepper perforations 12 are formed in the cap 10, and said perforations are adapted to be brought into register with the perforations 8 in the disk 4 by means of a knob or button 13, which is limited in its movements by means of a slot 14 in the cap or cover 10. The disk 4 and the cap 10 are pivoted by means of a rivet 15 passing centrally through said disk and cap. The cap may be provided with a threaded flange 16 to engage the threads upon the upper end of the salt shaker.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that when the knob 13 is turned to bring the perforations 6 into coincidence with the perforations 11 in the cap to dispense salt, the per forations 8 at the .top of the pepper receptacle are closed by the cap 10, and when the knob 13 is moved to a position to bring the perforations 8 in the disk 4 into coincidence with the perforations 12 in the cap 10, the perforations 6 are out of register with the perforations 11, thus permitting the device to dispense pepper only, and vice versa.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A combined salt and pepper shaker comprising a salt receptacle, an interiorly disposed pepper receptacle provided with a flange to center said pepper receptacle within the salt receptacle, a disk provided with salt and pepper perforations, and a flange to fit the pepper receptacle, and a cap or cover pivotally connected to said disk and provided with perforations, and means whereby one of said disks may be rotated to bring into coincidence the salt perforations or the pepper perforations alternately, substantially as described.
2. In a salt and pepper shaker, a salt receptacle, a pepper receptacle provided with a base flange to fit within the salt receptacle and center said pepper receptacle therein, a disk provided with a flange to fit the pepper receptacle, and a series of perforations, a knob formed on or secured to said disk, a cap or cover secured to the salt receptacle and provided with perforations, said cap and disk being centrally pivoted and said cap provided with a slot through which said knob projects, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.
HARVEY WV. JACKSON. Witnesses WV. H. SHEBLEY, J. B. SOLLNER.
