.of the form, and a notch to provide easy access to the hand rest.
With this and incidental objects in view, the invention includes certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, a preferred form or embodiment of which is hereinafter .described with reference to the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of this specification.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a top view of the form holder showing the hand rest in normal position in full lines, and in an extended position in chain lines.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the form holder and indicates a stack of forms thereon in chain lines.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. a
General description The form holder described herein is used in retail stores, restaurants, filling stations, or any establishment where written records are to be made. For example, the holder can be used by a waitress in a restaurant in writing a guests order for food. In taking orders in such establishments, the waitress must usually hold a stack of guest checks in one hand while making the entries thereon, and, when entries are to be made near the bottom of a check, it is difficult to make legible entries, since the waitress has no rest for her writing hand. The invention herein provides a novel adjustable hand rest for such contingencies, which can be moved out of the way when an order has been entered on a check. The holder is also provided with a tear-off means for quick removal of the check from the stack. The hand rest is made easily accessible for movement into a desired position by providing a notch in the main support thereof through which the thumb or a finger can pass to firmly grasp the hand rest. A stop on the hand rest limits the return movement of the hand rest, so that it is always in accessible position for adjustment.
The holder is preferably made of a metal which is sturdy, yet light in weight, such as aluminum, although it is not intended to limit the invention to such material.
Detailed description The holder is provided with a main supporting 4 Claims. (Cl. 281-44) 2 stack of checks. A stack of checks II is indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 by chain lines to indicate the size of the stack of checks in relation to the length of the main supporting member Ill.
The forward end of the main supporting member I0 is bent at right angles to form a wall [2 extending across the full width of the member 10. Formed on the wall [2 is a rearwardly-extending section l3, bent downwardly at a slight angle, and the terminal of said section is bent to form a short surface I4 substantially parallel with the face of the main supporting member ID. The rear edge l5 of the surface H provides a tear-off means for easy removal of a check from the stack. The section I3 is spring-biased in the direction of the face of the main supporting member ID, so as to provide a firm grip on the stack of checks I I. i
A slidable hand rest 16 is provided with turnedin flanges H at each side thereof, which flanges are formed to slidably fit the sides of the main supporting member II. If desired, the flange ll can be formed to provide space for a tally sheet, which can be supported on the hand rest l6, beneath the main supporting member Ill, in such a way that the tally sheet is accessible for entries when the hand rest is moved into accessible position.
A flange I8 is formed on the rear end of the hand rest for the dual purpose of making the hand rest more rigid and for providing a stop for the hand rest when it is moved into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in which position the inner wall of the flange formation I8 strikes the rear edge of the main supporting member 10.
To render the hand rest l6 easily accessible for moving it into a desired hand rest position, the main supporting member ID is provided with a notch l9, which can be of any shape: but which is illustrated herein as a semicircular notch. The notch 19 provides a clearance for the waitresss thumb or finger through which the hand rest can be firmly grasped for sliding the hand rest into a desired position.
The holder is not necessarily limited in construction for holding a stack of forms, since the extensible hand rest is also useful in systems where only one printed form is clipped to the holder at one time.
While the form of the invention shown and described herein is admirably adapted to fulfill the object primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form or embodiment shown herein, for it is susceptible of embodiment in various other forms.
What is claimed is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a supporting member for a stack of business forms on which hand-written records 2. In a device of the class described, the'combination of a supporting member for a stack of business forms on which hand writtenrecords are to be made, said member consistihg of a-fiatf plate having three unformed edges and one-edge formed to provide means to hold-"one'end of the;
stack of business forms on the top face of the fiat plate, an adjustable hand rest locatedin' theunder face of the flat plate, and grooves formed an the sides of the hand rest engageable with two of the unformed e'dge's of the fiat plate to form' a slidable'engagement therebetween.
3. In-a'device of the class described, the combination of a supporting member for a stack of business forms upon which written entries are to bemade, saidsupporting member comprising a flat plate having three unformed edges and one formed edge, said formed edge providing a receptacle to receive one endof a stack of said forms on the'top side of said plate; said recept'acle comprising a first section of said'fiat plate'f'orrned' upwardly at right angles to the face of said flat plate anda secondsection formed rearwardlyon said first section, said second section being biased downwardly toward the face of said'member toform a resilient means to releasably hold the stack of forms on the holder; and a hand rest slidably mounted on the underside of the flat plate to provide an adjustable hand rest when making written entries on the forms.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination of a supporting member for a stack of businessforms upon which written entries are to and' one foi 'm'ed e'dge, said formedffedgeproviding a receptacle to receive oneend of a stack of said forms, one side of said receptacle comprising a first section of said flat plate formed upwardly atright angles to the face of said fiat plate, and a second section formed rearwardly on said first section, said second section being biased downwardly toward the-face of said member to form a; resilient means to releasably hold the stack of forms in the said receptacle; and a hand rest slidably mounted on the under side of said flat plate to provide an adjustable hand rest when making written entries on the forms, said hand rest provided with runways formed to slidably engagetwo of the unformed: sides ofsaid'member whereby the stack of forms is located on one side of thefiat plate and the hand rest is located on theopposite sideof'the flat plate to render each accessible independently of the other.
