PRICE-TICKET HOLDER.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 17, 1918.
Application filed March 21, 1918. Serial No. 223,820.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD C. BAYNES, citizen of the United States, residing at E2;- celsior Springs, in the county of Clay and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Price Ticket Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved price ticket holder and has as its primary object to provide a device of this character adapted vto be connected to the edge of a shelf for supporting a ticket to indicate the price or other desired information concerning articles arranged upon the shelf in the rear of the ticket.
The invention has as a further object to provide a ticket holder which may be readily attached to or detached from the shelf and which may be connected to shelves of variou thicknesses so that the device will thus be adapted for a wide range of use.
And the invention has as a further object to provide a ticket holder which may be adjustably clamped upon the edge of the shelf or may be stood upon a show case.
Other and.incidental objects will appear as the description proceeds, and in the drawings wherein I have illustratedthe preferred embodiment of the invention, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view showing my improved ticket holder applied to a conventional type of shelf,
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view more particularly illustrating the, manner in which the ticket holder is engaged with the shelf,
Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view showing the sections of the holder detached,
Fig. 4: is an end elevation showing the manner in which the ticket holder may be stood upon a shelf or show case, the portion of the show case shown being conventionally illustrated, and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing a slightly modified form of the invention.
In carrying out the invention my improved ticket holder is preferably formed of suitable resilient sheet metal and includes a flat body 10 at the upper end of which is provided a laterally and rearwardly directed supporting flange 11 preferably moved.
equipped at its outer corners with suitable spurs 12. At its lower end the body is rebent upon itselfto form an upwardly directed channel shaped clip 13 extending from end to end of the body. This. clip is, as particularly shown in Fig. 2 of the draW- ings, adapted to receive the lower margin of a price ticket, conventionally shown at 14, therein, and the free extremity of the clip is formed to resiliently coact. withthe body for clamping the price ticket within. the clip seating flat against the front face of the body. The price ticket will thus'be securely held in positionjwhile, at the same time, the said ticket may, when desired, be easily re- Struck from the side edges of the body to extend vertically thereof are rearwardly directed confronting flange 15.
In connection with the body 10 I employ a clamping member including a flat slide plate or tongue 16 adapted to slidably engage beneath the flanges 15 of the body and formed with an obliquely directed resilient arm 17 extending in a direction upwardly and rearwardly from the plate. The arm 17 and plate 16 are preferably of corresponding width, being formed from a piece of sheet metal bent intermediate its ends to the desired shape and formed on the outer corners of the arm 17 are upwardly directed lateral spurs 18. Between these spurs, the arm is formed with a laterally and downwardly directed thumb tab or flange 19. Y In use the slide plate 16 of the clamping member is engaged beneath the flanges 15 of the'body 10 when the device is ready to be applied to a shelf for supporting a price ticket thereon and in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings I have shown the ticket holder in connection with a conventional type of shelf 20. In order to apply the device the thumb tab 19 of the clamping member is grasped and the said member moved downwardly upon the body to receive the front edge of the shelf between the supporting flange 11 of the body and the clamping arm 17. The flange 11 is then rested flat against 'the upper face of the shelf, when the clamping member is adjusted upwardly upon the body to engage the spurs 18 of the clamping arm with the lower face of the shelf. Further upward adjustment of the clamping member will then serve to sink the spurs 12 of the supporting'flange and the spurs 18 of 16 of the clamping member to accordingly bind such slide plate beneath the flanges of the body 10 for frictionally locking the clamping member in adjustable position upon the body. Accidental displacement of the ticket holder will thus be prevented. Furthermore, it will be seen that the clamping membermay be adjusted upon the, body 10' for receiving shelves of diflerent thick- I nesses between the clamping arm 17 and the supporting flange 11 of the body so that the device may thus be attached to any ordinary shelving and,is consequently ada ted for a wide range of use. When applie it will. be seen that the device will, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings, support the ticket vertically infront of the shelf for indicating the'price or otherdesired information concerning the articles upon the shelf in the rear of the ticket. However, since it is often desired to indicate the price-of articles piled upon a show case, I have formed the device so that it may be stood,'in the manner 1 shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, upon such a case, a portion of a show case being conventionally shown at 21. When thus used, the clamping member is shifted to the limit of its inward adjustment upon the body 10 of the ticket holder the ticket being engaged -within the clip 13 of the holder, in the man- ,ner previously described. The device is then stood upon the show case to be supported by the arm 17 of the clamping member which will extend rearwardly beneath the body 10 to provide a rest therefor, supporting the body in upwardly and rearwardly inclined position so that the price ticket will be properly displayed. I, therefore, provide a particularly eflicient construction for the purpose set forth while, at the same time, the device is of such simple nature that it may be readily produced- In Fig. 5 of the drawings I have illustrated a slight modification of the invention which relates more particularly to the provision of an article supporting hook in connection with the holder. In this figure the body of the holder is indicated at 22, its supporting flange at 23 and the ticket engaging clip at 24. Projecting rearwardly from the holder body is the upwardly directed arm 25 of the clamping member of the holder adjustable upon the holder body. All of these parts are identical with the correspondin parts of the preferred construction an cooperate in a sumlar manner, the holder shown in Fig. 5 merely being smaller than the holder illustrated in connection with the preferred embodiment of the invention. Swung from the clip 24 is an article supporting hook 26. This hook is preferably formed from a single length of suitable resilient wire looped intermediate of its ends to provide the hook bill from which the strands of wire extend in overlapping relation to form the shank of the hook. At the upper end of the shank the said strands are then bent in opposite directions to provide arms 27 the ends of which are again bent to form inwardly directed hooked terminals 28 loosely engaging within the ends of the clip. This construction provides an arrangement whereby the arms 27 of the hook may be flexed away from each other for detaching the hook from the holder while the said hook will normally be supported to depend from the holder for receiving one or more articles for display. Thus the holder may be con-.
nected with the edge of a shelf in the manner ing flanges formed from the end margins of the body between said supporting flange and clip, and a clamping member adjustable upon the body and including a flat plate slidably engaged at its ends beneath said confronting flanges, and an upwardly and rearwardly directed clamping arm extending from the plate to confront the supporting flange and projecting therebeyond.
2. A ticket holder of the character described including a body provided with a supporting flange, ticket holding means carried by the body, and a clamping member adjustable upon the body plate slidably connected with the body, and a clam ing arm extending from said plate to con ront thesupporting flange and pro and including a 7 rest for suppcrting the body from a Sui-fete supporting flan e, ticket holding means carried by the b0 y, and a clamping member adjustable upon the body and including aplate sli'dably connected with the body, an
arm projecting from said plate and confronting the said flange, and an angularly directed thumb tab carried by the free extremity of said arm and adapted 'to be grasped for adjusting the clamping member upon the body,
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
