Description

A. OMEGNA Aug. 2, 1932.
HAND REST Filed Oct.
ARTURO G/vL G/VA Patented Aug. 2, 1932 UETED STATES ARTURO OMEGNA, OF SANTIAGO, CHILE HAND REST Application filed October 18, 1930. Serial No. 489,668.
This invention relates to improvements in hand rests,
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient hand rest adapted to be adjustably fitted to a tray or other like article carrying cards or sheets where it is necessary for a user to rest the arm or hand close to the edges of the tray to conveniently utilize the memoranda on the cards.
The invention also comprehends improve ments in the details of construction and ar rangement of parts to be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view, illustrating the application of my invention, a'card index cabinet of usual construction being shown in dotted lines and the invention in full lines.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the hand support.
Figure 3 is a central section of same.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view.
1 indicates a card index cabinet of usual construction having trays 2. 3 indicates my improved device comprising a hand support 4:, with one longitudinal edge bent downwardly to provide a flange 5, and the side edges bent downwardly to provide end braces or sides 66 which taper from a point 7 some distance from the flange 5 to the outer free edge of the support.
From the inner ends 7 of the side braces 6 and extending inwardly toward each other are flanges 8-8 spaced from the flange 5 and forming with the latter a clamp to fasten the device to the side of a card tray. The flanges 8-8 are slightly curved toward the outer free edge of the support to readily permit of a sliding action of the device along the edge of the card tray.
In operation, the flange 5 is fitted over the edge strip of a tray 2 to engage the inner surface of said edge, while the flanges 88 engage the outer surface of the edge of the tray, thus clamping the device to the edge of said tray. Obviously, the device can be quickly 7 appliedandcanwithease be moved along the tray and yet, because of the clamping'action between the flanges 8 and 5, the device can be heldin a given position best suited for the convenience of the one using the support.
I claim A hand rest for use in connection with card containing trays comprising a relatively broad hand supporting section having its inner edge bent downwardly at right angles to the support to fit over the wall of a card bent end of thesupport serving as a clamp to engage the side wall of a card tray.
In testimony whereof I aiflx my signature.
