PAD. HOLDER Filed June 2, 1938 murder.- l moc/L Wojzfa n9 atented Dec. 24, 1940 PAD HOLDER Enoch Walters, Elizabeth, N. J., assignor to Wilson-Jones Company, Chicago, 111., a corporation of Massachusetts Application June 2, 1938, Serial No. 211,400
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a pad holder, and particularly to a holder of the type adapted to be secured to a table or counter. The pad holder is of particular advantage in connection with the dispensing of restaurant or sales checks.
It is an object of this invention to provide simple and inexpensive means for holding a pad of restaurant or sales checks in a convenient position for employees to write orders on said checks and to remove the checks from the pad individually with a minimum loss of time and effort. It is a further object of this invention to provide pad holding means that may be secured to a table or counter so as to prevent accidental displacement of the pad and yet permit removal of the pad holding means without the use of any tools of any kind. Other objects of this invention will become apparent upon reading the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a perferred embodiment of my invention secured to a suitable supporting base; and
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view through the 5 device of Figure 1.
In the drawing, the reference numeral 2 indicates a suitable supporting base such as the top of a counter or table. The pad holder comprises a flat plate member 3 having one end bent to form a channel member 6. The upright wall 5 of the channel member 4 is of a height to snug- 1y receive a pad 6 of restaurant or sales checks The front edge of the channel member 4 is flared slightly, as indicated at l, to facilitate entrance of the end of the pad 6 into the channel member. The plate member 3 is preferably of slightly less length than the length of the pad so as to facilitate removal of the base 8 of the pad from the holder after the checks have been removed from the pad.
A wire supporting member 9 is provided with two parallel arms 19 extending the length of the plate member 3 and welded to the edges thereof to form side members for the pad holder. As
shown in Figure 2, the side members 10 extend inwardly over the outer longitudinal edges of the base 8 of the pad to increase the security with which the pad is retained in the holder and to prevent displacement of the base 8 when the uppermost sheet is individually removed from the pad.
The arms 18 converge to form a doubled section I I provided with an extension l2 lying in a plane parallel to the plane of the arms It.
The end of the extension [2 is provided with a loop l3 of a size to receive a threaded bolt I l. The inner surface of the loop I3 is threaded to engage the threads of the bolt I4. One end of the bolt i l is flattened, as indicated at l 5, to facilitate manual rotation of the bolt M.
A collar l6 having a flat surface of sufficient area to engage the underside of the supporting member 2 is rotatably mounted on the upper end of the bolt 14. From the foregoing it will be seen that I have devised a simple and ei'ficient pad holding means that scribed, claim.
I claim:
except as limited by the appended A pad holder comprising a substantially fiat plate member, a wire rod permanently secured to said plate member above its surface along the opposite edges thereof, said wire rod adapted to engage the backing sheet of a pad to secure said backing sheet to said holder, and clamping means engaging said wire rod to secure said pad holder to a supporting base.
ENOCH WALTERS.
