This invention relates to improvements in pad holders, particularly adapted for being employed in connection with bridge tables and comprises a clamping member adapted to be removably-secured to atable top or the like and hingedl-y secured to the clamping member is a pad holder having means for gripping and holding-a writing pad in place and also rovided 011 the pad holder is a pencil hol er whereby the pad holder may be swung from an inoperative position over the edge of the table to its operative position on 'topcof the table in order to be removed from the users or players sight when the same is not being employed.

Heretofore', it has been common practice to provide card table score pads which maybe clamped to the table at the edges thereof and which usually obstruct theusers hands and an arms while playing or while engaged in any portion of the game. The above practice is objectionable, due to the fact that card or game tables are usually small and provided with small table tops and that all ofthe available space is necessary in order .to play comfortably without the danger of tearing,

the coat sleeves or other portions-of the garment by the user while playing the game.

Inthe'drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustrating the device and wherein like reference-characters will be employed to designate like parts throughout the'same, the reference character A will generally be employedto designate a table top of a card or game table upon which the invention is adapted to be used.

As illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, the invention comprises a rectangular metal v3 plate 5 having secured to one end thereof as by means of rivets 6, spring fingers 7 which bend inwardly and are provided with rounded free edges 8 through which passes a pin or bar 9.- The bar 9 connects the opposite 9 spring fingers 7 and the edge or end of the rectangular plate 5 is provided with an upturned-flange 10 in order that the spring fin-, gers 7 may be placed parallel withthe flange and riveted or'secured thereto by the rivets 6.

Formed on the metallic plate 5 at eachend thereof are extensions 11 on each of which is provided a pencil clip 12 as clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. The free ends of theextensions 11 are rolled as at 13 andnotched as at 14 to provide or form a hinge leaf adapted to communicate and register with coiled portions 15 on an angle member 16. A pintle 17 passes through the cars 18 and 15 whereby the rectangular plate 5 may be moved in a hinged fashion relative to the angle clamp 16. The angle clamp 16 can tends downwardly as to 20 and is further bent into an angle portion as at 21 whence it is bent back upon itself as at 22 in the close proximity to the angle portion 21 as at 23 whence it extends upwardly parallel with the downwardly extending portion 20 as indicated by the reference character 24 and the vertical portion 24 terminates in an angle free end portion 25 adapted to overlie the table top as clearly illustrated in Figure 3. The portion between the angle sections 21 and 23 and the bent portion 22 is provided with a bushing 26 having screw threads for receiving a wing screw 27 having on one end thereof a clamping device 28 rotatably held in place by being engaged on a reduced portion of the wing screw 27 and held there on by means of peening the end as at 29.

In addition to the spring fingers 7 011 the rectangular plate 5, a further adjustable clamping finger 30 may be provided on the opposite end and this spring finger 30 or clamping member is coiled. as at 31 on its free end and has its opposite end extending under therectangular plate 5 as at 32 and the end of the spring finger 30 under the metal plate 5 is provided with a shoe 33 extending through a" slot 34in the metallic plate 5 and held to the spring finger end 32 by means of a screw or the like 35. In this fashion the adjustable spring finger 30 may i be moved longitudinally relative to the plate or score pad holder 5 for accommodating different sized pads or for releasing and inserting a pad in the spring fingers 7.

The construction illustrated in Figures 4 and 5, comprises a pair of U-shaped clamps having parallel portions 41 and 42 connected by a central portion 43. A wingscrew '44 is adapted to pass through the parallel portion 42 and a clamping member 45 is provided on one end of the wing screw 44 while a handle portion 46 is provided on the opposite end. The other parallel portion 41 of the U-shaped clamp 40 is connected .to the "connecting portion 43 by means of an angle portion 47. The clamp 40 is adapted to be placed on the edge of a table as illustrated in Figures 4 and 5, and the clamping member 45 is adapted to engage the under portion of the table top A while the parallel 66 section of the U-shaped clamp 40, as illustrated at 41, is adapted to engage the upper portion of the table top. i

V The form of rectangular pad holder illus trated in Figures 4 and 5 includes a rectangular plate 47 having a side longitudinal flange 48 and an end transverse flange 49.

The spring fingers 50 are secured to the flange 49 by means of rivets in a similar fashion to the fastening of the spring fingers 7 The plate 47 illustrated in Figure 4 is connected to the clamp 40 by means of a link 52 passing through a loop 53 which is formed on one end of a plate 54 secured to the vertical flange 48 by means of rivets while the opposite end of the plate 54 is bent outwardly to form a pencil holder 55. The link 52 also passes around the angle portion 47 of the clamp 40 where the angle portion 47 connects the parallel section 41 with the connecting portion 43.

The construction illustrated in Figures 6 and 7 includes a rectangular plate 47 similar to the plate 47 illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 and a longitudinal edge flange 48 is also provided as is the end vertical flange 49'.

The spring fingers 50' are connected to the end vertical flange 49' by means of rivets 51 in a similar fashion to the fastening of the spring fingers 7 and 50 in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive. On the underside welded to the rectangular card game pad holder 47 is a pair of sliding bars adjacent the ends of the rectangular plate and each of the sliding bars 60 are so spaced from pad holder 47 as to allow hinge link 64 to easily pass through a hook 61. Clips 62 are adapted to I receive a pencil in a similar fashion to the clip 12 secured to the top of plate 47. The plate 47 is hinged in sliding manner to a clamp 63 by means of a link 64 and the link 64 passes through the sliding bar 61 and through a lug 65 formed on the clamp 63. The clamp 63 is a U-shaped clamp and includes a pair of parallel sections 66 and 67 which are connected to the central section a spring finger 68 held in place by being riveted as at 69 and the spring finger 68 is adapted to engage in a frictional manner, the underside'of the table top A as clearly illustrated in Figure 7. It will be noted that the strip 60is formed integral with the U-shaped clamp 63 and extends transversely relative to the plate 47 and is provided with an upturned edge 70 adapted to support the plate 47 in a horizontal position.

It is to be noted that the cross-piece 9 is secured to the spring fingers 7, 50 and 51' in a manner similar to the form illustrated in Figures 1 and 3 and it is to be noted that the bar 9 is adapted to be employed for raising the spring fingers while inserting or removing a pad or score card.

In the forms of the invention illustrated in Figures 4 to 7 inclusive, the rectangular metal plates 47 and 47 may be provided with spring fingers 71 opposite the spring fingers 50 and 51 for further holding the pad or score card in place. I

It will be clearly observed that in the forms I of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 to Vice 63. Having thus described the invention, What I claim is A pad holder comprising a rectangular plate having pad holding means on the upper part to hold a pad, andlateral extensions providing support for pencil holders,

said extensions having clamping plates hinged to the outer edges thereof provided with clamping screws adapted to secure the clamping plates to the edge of a table.
