Ohio, a corporation of Maryland Application October 1, 1949, Serial No. 119,125
This invention relates to a holder for supporting' 'a stack of forms onwhich written entries are to'be made. a 1
The object of the invention is torprovide a holder for a stack of business forms, said holder comprising an end formed to resiliently hold the stack of forms thereon, a tear-off means for easy removal of a' form from the stack, and a combination cover and hand rest to assist the user in making entries at the bottom of the form.
'With this and incidental objects in view, the invention includes certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, a preferred form or embodiment of which is hereinafter described with reference to the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of this specification.
In the drawing: 1 Fig. 1 is a top view of the form holder with the cover shown partly broken away.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the form holder. Fig. 3 is a sectional view, taken on line 3--3 ofFigel. l a Y General description The form holder described herein is used in retail stores, restaurants, filling stations, or any establishments where written records are to be made. For example, the holder can be used by a waitress in a restaurant in writinga guests order for food. In taking orders in such establishments, the waitress must usually hold a stack of guest checks in one hand while making the entries thereon, and, when entries are to be made near the bottom of a check, it is diflicult to make legible entries, since the waitress has no rest for her writing hand. Also, in making Written records on a stack of forms, the paper used is sometimes soft, making legible entries difiicult, and, if too much pressure is used, the entries are embossed on the form below. The invention herein provides a novel adjustable combination cover, writing table, and hand rest for such contingencies, which can be moved out of the way when an order has been entered on a check. The holder is also provided with a tear-oil means for quick removal of the check from the stack. The combination cover, writing table, and hand rest is easily accessible for movement into a desired position. When an order is to be taken, the waitress slides the cover rearwardly far enough to withdraw the top form of a stack from the holder and then closes the cover with the writing table thereof beneath the withdrawn form. The writing table thereby forms a solid, smooth surface for backing the form receiving the entries.
3 Claims. (01.281544) The holder is preferably made of a metal hich ls sturdy,.yet light in weight, such as aluminum,
although it isnot intended to limit the invention to such material.
Detailed description The holder is provided with a main supporting member ID, of a size slightly wider than a stack of checks to be supported thereby, and long enough to extend beyond'the lower ends of the stack of checks. A stack-of checks H is indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 by chain lines to indicate the size of the stack of checks in relation to the length of the main supportingmember Ill.
The forward end of'the main supporting member 10 is bent at right angles toform a wall I2 extending across thefull width of the member ID. Formed on the wall [2 is a readwardlyextending section l3," bent downwardly at a slight angleiand the terminal of said section is bent-to form 'a short surface it substantially parallel'with the face ofthe main supporting member ID. The rear edge 15 of the surface 14 provides a tear-off means for easy removal of a check from the stack.v The section 13 is spring-biased in the direction of the face of the main supporting member In, so as to provide a firm grip on the stack of checks I I.
A slidable member i6 is provided with turnedin flanges ll at each side thereof, which flanges are formed to slidably fit the sides of the main supporting member ID.
stability.
The forward terminal of the flanges 2%) are: bent inwardly to form flanges :21, to engage. flanges 22 formed at the rear ends of each side. of the main supporting member it whereby the:
rearward movement of the cover and writing, table i9 is arrested when moved rearwardly.
When the cover [9 is moved forwardly to closed;
The slidable member Itv is provided with a semi-circular rear end l8 and. a combination cover and writing table I9, thev latter having flanges 20 formed on the two side; edges thereof to give the cover and writing table.
forms, said receptacle formed on one end of said.
member and comprising a rstseam or said member formed upwardly at" right angles t'dthe face of said member, and a second section formed rearwardly on said first section, saidsecond= sec tion being biased downwardly toward the face of said member to forma resilient means to releasably holdthe stack'of forms on the holder; and a combination cover am writing table slidabl y mounted on the main; supporting member and movable between thesaid-secondsection and the stack of forms when moved intoclosed position.
2. In a device of'the' class described, the combination of a supportingmember for. a'stack of business forms upon which written entries are to be made; a recep tacle to receive a stack of said forms, said receptacle formed-onone endof said, member and, comprising a first section of said member formediupwardly at rightangles to the face of said-member; and a; second section formed rearwardlyon said; first section, said second; section being biased downwardly toward theface of said member. to, form a resilient means to releasably' hold; th'e:- stack; of forms; on. the holder; and acombination cover'and; hand rest slidably mountedz on the member" to; providev an. adjustable cover for thestacl; of forms and. a hand rest when making written. entries onthe 7 formsthe forward endof said combinationi over' Number ee rhe and a combination cover, writing table, and hand 4 and hand rest movable beneath the said section when moved into closed position.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a supporting member for a stack oi. business forms upon which written entries are to be made; a receptacle to receive a stack of said forms, said receptacle formed on one end of said member and comprising a first section" of said member formed upwardly at right angles to the face of said member, and a second section formed rearwardly on said first section, said second section being biased downwardly toward the face of said member to'iorin a resilient means to rethestack of forms on the holder;
second restslgidabljy mounted on the member to provide an adjustable hand rest when making written entries" 'on the forms, said combination cover, writing table, and hand? rest provided with runways; formed to slidably engage the sides of; said member at the' underside thereof, and extending forwardly over the top of said main supporting member? and stack :of forms; said combination covemrwriting; table,. and hand rest being formed from one sheet of material.
