TOILET PAPER-DISPENSER FiledMarch 26, 1948- 2 FIG.
INVEN TOR. LE WIS I? KIRKLAND Patented May 1, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Y TOILET PAPER DISPENSER Lewis P. Kirkland, San Diego, Calif.
Application March 26, 1948, Serial No. 17,141
(01. ZOE-57) Z'Claims.
My invention relates to a paper container and dispenser, more particularly for use in containing and dispensing toilet paper or the like "for Outdoor use and theobjects of my invention are:
First, to provide a paper container of this class whichemploys a box having a hinged lid wherein a slotin one side .of the box'permits removal of the paper therefrom without opening the hinged lid;
Second, to provide a dispenser and container of this class which is particularly shaped for use in carrying paper in a sportsmans pockets;
Third, to provide a container and dispenser of this class which maintains the paper in dry, clean condition;
Fourth, to provide a container and dispenser of this class having a spring hinge lid which remains tightly closed at all times;
Fifth, to provide a container and dispenser of this class in which the spring hinge lid is curved at its outer side, providing a minimum amount of obstruction within the pockets of a sportsman when travelling outdoors;
Sixth, to provide a container and dispenser of this class which may be utilized in carrying a variety of small, personal effects in addition to the paper contained therein and maintaining said personal effects in clean, dry condition; and
S'eventh, to provide a container and dispenser of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efficient in operation and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
' With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described indetail and particunnyset forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the/characters of reference thereon forming a part of this application in which:
" Fig. 1 is a top or plan view of my paper container and dispenser showing the same in open position, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken from the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
The box I, the cover 2, spring 3, compass 4,
' and card clip 5 constitute the principal parts and portions of my paper containerand dispenser.
The box I is provided with an open side Ia having an inwardly extending lip lb at one edge thereof, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The opposite side of the box, designated Ic, is subbox I in overlapping relationship thereto.
stantially enclosed and provided with a slot Id therein through which paper may be dispensed to the outside from the interior of the box I. Opposite ends Ie and If of the box I are curved and the corners In at the bottom of the box I are curved providing a minimum amount of abrasive or frictional action on the pockets of a sports-- mans clothes when travelling in the outdoors. Hinged to the box I in opposed relation to the inwardly extending flange portion Ib by means of the pin 6 is the cover 2. This cover 2 is provided with an outer convex surface 2a, and inwardly thereof at the inner side 2b is a card clip 5 having opposed U-shaped in cross section edges 5a, arranged to support opposite edges of a card for identification or the like. The spring 3 is a clip-type spring and issubstantially conventional to spectacle case cover springs, tending to maintain the cover 2 in closed position adjacent the inwardly extending flange lb of the The compass 4 is in the box I at one corner thereof and is used for orientation of the sportsman when in the out of doors. When the sportsman is travelling in unfamiliar country it is sometimes necessary to refer to a compass to obtain directions and this compass as well as matches or other necessary objects may be maintained in the box I with the folded paper, one end of which 7 projects through the open slot Id, in the side of the box I.
The operation of my paper container and dispenser is substantially as follows:
The paper is placed in the box I in folds parallel to the opposite sides Ia and lo and one end of the folded paper adjacent the slot Id is projected therethrough. The cover 2 is then placed in closed position, urged by the spring 3, wherein the lip 20 of the cover 2 engages the inwardly extending flange Ib near the outer edge of the box I, shielding and protecting the paper in the box I as well as shedding a considerable moisture which might penetrate the paper during adverse weather conditions. When it is desired to dispense paper from the box I the end of the folded paper projecting from the slot Id is grasped and the paper is pulled outwardly through the slot Id until a suflicient amount has been removed, then the paper is torn ofi and permitted to project a short distance. An identification card may be placed in the card clip 5 and numerous small personal effects in addition to the paper may be placed in the container and dispenser as desired.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination, and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a paper container and dispenser the combination of a box having a hinged lid enclosing one side thereof and a slot in the opposite side thereof through which paper may be dispensed, said hinged lid having a spring tending to hold the lid in closed position, the outer side of said lid being convex and the outer surfaces of said box being convex, said box provided with an inwardly extending flange lip underneath the outswinging edge of the cover in overlapping relationship therewith for retaining the edges of tissues thereunder and for supporting said cover in abutted relationship to said box when in closed position.
2. In a paper container and dispenser the combination of a box having a hinged lid enclosing one side thereof and a slot in the opposite side thereof through which paper may be dispensed, said hinged lid having a spring tending to hold the lid in closed position, the outer side of said lid being convex and the outer surfaces of said box being convex, said box provided with an inwardly extending flange lip underneath the outswinging edge of the cover in overlapping relationship therewith for retaining the edges of tissues thereunder and for supporting said cover in abutted relationship to said box when in closed position, an identification card clip inside said cover for identifying the owner of the container and dispenser.
