My invention relates more particularly'to cases for receiving womens toilet articles and of the general character known as vanity cases.

My primary object is to provide a novel and simple construction of case of the kind above stated; to provide a case adapted to contain a large assortment of articles, particularly toilet articles; toprovide a case presenting a mirror portion which is housed within the case when the latter is closed and is protected against damage by contact with articles in the case, and preferably by a reoeptacle-forming portion of the case; and

other objects as will be manifest from the following description.

The case also comprises a comparatively rigid plate-like cover portion 14 hingedly connected along one edge to the adjacent edge of the body 10 as by a strip 15 of flexible materiahthe cover 14 being provided .on its inner face with a mirror 16. The

, mirror is shown as held in place by means of a relatively rigid sheet 17 which contains an opening 18 the wall portions of which overlap the peripheral edges of the mirror, the sheet 17 being stitched along its marginal edges to the body portion of the cover 14. K,

Means such 'as the strips of tape represented at 19 and secured to the body 10 and the ;cover 14 are provided to limit the extent to which the cover is opened.

The case further comprises a holder element 20 which is located at the inner face of the cover 14 and is preferably hinged along one edge to the cover to permit it to ;be swung into and out of a position in which it covers the mirror.

- The holder element 20 is preferably relatively thin and is shown as formed of a sheet-like body portion 21 presenting a flexible portion 22 along its upper edge which is confined between, and sewed to, the body portion of the cover 14 and the sheet portion. 17 thereby to form the hinged joint above referred to.

In the particular arrangement'shown the holder element 20 is formed with vpockets 23 and 24 at its opposite faces, the pocket portion 24 being expansive and provided with a cover flap 25 and the pocket 23 unprovided with such a flap.

Any suitable means are preferably provided for releasably holding the holder element 20 fiatwise against the inside of the cover 14, the means shown comprising a ball and socket fastener the two cooperating arts of which are secured to the cover 14 and the holder element 20, respectively, the latter having a tab 26 which may be drawn upon to disengage the fastener.

Fastening means are also provided for releasably holding the cover in closed position these means comprising, in .the particular construction shown, tabs 27 secured to the rim portion 11 of the body 10 and provided at their free ends with the socket members u of ball and socket fastening devices, the

ball parts of which are secured to the cover 14:.

The case is preferably provided with a looped strap 28 at which it may be hung on the finger of the person carrying it, this strap being preferably located at one end of v the case and connected at its opposite ends with the rim portion 11 and the bottom sheet 12 of the body of the case.

By constructing a case in accordance with my invention the mirror carried by the cover portion thereof is kept clean and is protected against damage by contact with articles, such as bottles, jars or'the like, or metal articles which may be carried in the body of the case, and yet may be readily rendered accessible for use'by merely swinging nvaaeia 5. A case comprising a collapsible recep tacle-forming body portion having an open side, said body portion being formed of relatively rigid members at the top and bottom thereof and a flexible intermediate portion, a cover for the open side of said body and a. flexible carrying element connected at its opposite ends with said relatively rigid members, said relatively rigid members causing the top and bottom portions of the case to move toward each other by gravity under the weight of the contents of the case when the case is held by and thus suspended from said element.

Furthermore, a case constructed in accordance with my invention permits of the carr 'ng of a large assortment of articles, espee cially toilet articles, in a relatively compact structure.

The expansible feature of the body 10 is of advantage in a case of this kind, particularly when the caseis provided with a carrying strap as shown and above described, as the expansible body portion expands only to such an extent as is necessary to accommodate the particular articles introduced into it whereby the case presents only such bulk as is necessary to accommodate the contained articles and this is ensured by the rovision of the carrying loop as stated which tends to collapse the body.- p

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A case comprising a receptacle-forming body having'an open side, a cover for said open'side hinged to said body, and a holder element attached to the cover adjacent a free edge of the cover and accessible in the open position of the cover.

2. A case comprising a. receptacle-forming body having an open side, a cover for said open side hinged to said body, and a holder element hinged at one edge to the free longitudinal edge of said cover accessible in the oxen position of the cover.

3. case comprising a receptacle-forming body having an open side, a cover forsaid open side hinged to said body, a holder element hlnged to the cover adjacent free edge of the cover, and means releasably holdlng said element against hinge movement.
