(Cl. d- 203) L5 Claims. 1
rlhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet cases, and more particularly to combination brush, comb and mirror sets.
The primary object ofthe present invention is to provide a case including a plurality .of pivotal bristle-holding members and novel and improved means for simultaneously raising all of said members whereby the bristles carried thereby will be extended from the case for use.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a toilet case including a removable outer cover highly polished to provide a mirror and so. designed Yas to permit the same to engage a pocket `or other suitable ,supporting-element for suspending thev articletherefrom for use.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a toilet set having the foreg-eing purposes and including meanswhereby the bristle-holding members may be locked in an extended position for use. Y f' s A still further aim Vof the present invention is to provide a combination brush, comb and mirror set that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, neat and attractive inV appearance, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fullyA hereinafter described and claimed, reference .being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, whereinV like numerals refer to like Figure 3 is a view similar to vFigure 2 and*Y showing the bristle holding members in a slightly raised or extended position;
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 2 and t.
showing the bristle holding members in a, locked bristle holding members in a locked extended position;
Figure 7 is a group perspective view of the inner case and parts carried thereby; i
Figure 8 is a, transverse vertical sectional View taken substantially on the plane of section line 8 8 of Figure 6; and Y Figure 9 is a perspective View of the outer case.
Referring n-ow to the drawings in detail Wherein, for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral lil represents the inner case generally formed from a single sheet of substantially rectangular material I2 having its longitudinal side edges turned upwardly to provide flange portions I3 and lil, for the purpose of clarity in the description. One of these flanges is designated as a forward flange i3 and the other flange va rear ilange Ill. Adjacent the transverse edges of the sheet |12 are provided ribs i6 integrally formed with the sheet.
The numeral .i8 represents generally a plurality -of bristle-holding members-comprising elongated strips` of metal each folded longitudinally upon itself to provide justaposed plates 28 and 22. 1
i Adjacent upper and lower hollow protuberances Ztand 26 are provided inthe transverse edgesof these plates to engage upper members 28 and lower members 30. i
Extending through transversely spaced apertured'32 inthe ribs I t are nails or the like 34 that pivotally engage the lower members 3S carriedvby the adjacent protuberances 26. Extending transversely between the upper members 28 are connector bars 3B that are pivotally secured said plates.
The numeral 'i8 designates generally the outer case or cover, formed of a highly polished l metal so that the same will constitute a mirror.
This cover isformed from a rectangular strip of metal bent substantially U-shaped and having its terminal portions turned inwardly to provide retainer flanges 50 and 52 that bear against the outer, undisturbed face of the inner case. One of these iianges, for example 50, is preferably of an increased width with respect to flange 52 and is turned slightly outwardly to facilitate the same to clampingly enga-ge a pocket when the device is being carried or some suitable supporting element for use of the outer cover as a mirror.
When the cover is applied to the inner case, as shown in Figure 1, the plates and 22 are inclined forwardly toward flange I3 against each other and overlie a comb 54 placed between ange I3 and the adjacent strip I8.
To extend the strips I8 at right angles with the case I2 and the bristles 46 outwardly of the inner case, it is merely necessary to remove the outer case 4B, pull outwardly and rearwardly upon member 42 and engage the same with ilange I4, as shown in Figure 4 of the drawings with the arcuate ends or terminal hooks 40 of the member 42 engaged over the outer edge of the flange I4.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the clevice will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A toilet article comprising a, base, spaced parallel ribs integrally formed with said base, a plurality of elongated strips folded longitudinally upon themselves to provide juxtaposed plates, adjacent upper and lower protuberances provided in the transverse edges of said plates, upper and lower members fixed in said upper and lower protuberances, means pivotally securing said lower members to said ribs, connecting bars pivoted to said upper members, a substantially U-shaped locking member having terminal hooks pivoted to said connecting bars, means carried by saidbase engageable with the terminal hooks of said locking member to retain said plates disposed substantially perpendicular to said base, and groups of bristles fixed between said plates and projecting outwardly therefrom.
2. A toilet article comprising a base, spaced parallel ribs integrally formed with said base, a plurality of elongated strips folded longitudinally upon themselves to provide juxtaposed plates,
4 adjacent upper and lower protuberances provided in the transverse edges of said plates, upper and loweramembers fixed in said upper and lower protuberances, means pivotally securing said lower members to said ribs, connecting bars piv- .oted to said upper members, a substantially U-shaped locking member having terminal hooks y pivoted to said connecting bars, means carried by said base engageable with the terminal hooks of said locking member to retain said plates disposed substantially perpendicular to said base, adjacent, longitudinally spaced, hollow protuberances provided in the free edges of said plates, and groups of bristles mounted in said hollow protuberances and having free ends projecting outwardly from said plates.
3. The combination of claim 1 wherein said means carried by said base engageable with the terminal hooks of said locking member includes an upstanding flange.
4. The combination of claim 1 and a substantially U-shaped cover having its terminal portions turned inwardly to provide retainer flangesy said retainer flanges of said cover yieldingly bearing upon the said base.
5. A toilet article comprising a substantially rectangular inner case having its longitudinal edges turned upwardly to provide a pair of spaced anges, a pair of space parallel ribs integrally formed with said inner case, a plurality of spaced parallel bristle holding members pivotecl to said ribs, links pivotally connecting said members to each other, a substantially U-shaped locking member having terminal hooks pivoted to said links, said terminal hooks engageable with one iiange of said inner case to retain the members in a raised position, and an outer substantially U-shaped case having its terminal portions turned inwardly to provide retainer `iianges yieldingly bearing upon said inner case, the web portion of said outer case extending transversely between the anges of said inner case, and the leg portions of said U-shaped outer case dening end walls extending transversely between the ends of said lianges.
