7 4'Claims. (Cl. 15-203) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet sets and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a combination comb, brush and mirror, all neatly packed in a small article that is conveniently carried within ones pocket.

Another important object of the present invention i to provide a case wherein a plurality of bristle holding members are pivotally mounted and including novel and improved means for retaining said bristle holdin members extended outwardly from the case when it is desired to use the same. V I

A further object of the present invention is to provide a toilet article wherein all parts thereof are quickly and readily disassembled for cleaning or replacement.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a toilet set that is simple and practical in construction, efficient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which: t

Figure 4 is a top plan view of the lower portion of the device and with dotted lines showing the comb applied thereto, and with parts broken away and shown in section;

Figure 5 is a side elevational view of Figure 4 with parts thereof broken away and shown in section, and showing the bristle holding plate in a position for locking to the bottom;

Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 5 showing the bristle holding plate in a position locked to the bottom; and,

Figure 7 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 11 of Figure 4.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral ll] represents a sub- 2 stantially rectangular bottom having its side edges turned upwardly to provide flanged portions I2.

Removably carried within the bottom is a substantially rectangular frame M, the outer faces of which bear against the inner faces of the flanged portions [2 with a portion of the frame projecting outwardly from the outer edges of the flanged portion to frictionally engage the inner face of the marginal flange l6 of 'a cover l8, when the latter is applied in position to the bottom [0. 7

One end of each of a plurality of coil springs 20 is removably secured to the inner faces of the frame H adjacent each corner thereof and the opposite ends of these springs are removably se-' cured to the bottom [0, to normally retain the inner edges of the frame against the bottom.

The numeral 22 represents generally a plurality of elongated substantially rectangular strips of metal, each folded longitudinally in half to provide a pair of juxtaposed

24 and 26. The transverse edges of these plates are provided with opposed hollow protuberances 28 that receive cylindrical members 30 having outwardly projecting pivot pins 32 that engage transversely spaced apertures 34 provided in the ends of the frame. Also spaced longitudinally at the adjacent longitudinal edges of these plates are hollow protuberances 36 each of which engages a set of bristles 38.

There is provided a space between the first of the series of strips 22 and one of the longitudinal sides of the frame to accommodate a comb 40.

In a normal position, when the cover is is applied to are frame 14 and bottom I0 to the frame, the frame remains in a neatly folded case as shown in Figure l of the drawings and the strips 22 and bristles 38 are inclined against each other toward one side of the frame and overlie the comb 40.

To lock these strips 22 in a raised position, and for accessibility to the comb, the strips 22 are raised by raising the forward strip; as the other strips bear thereon they will likewise be raised and the lower edges of the strips bear against the bottom to extend the bottom slightly from the lower edge of the frame until the lower edges of the strips 22 engage longitudinally extending slots 42 provided in the bottom, The springs 20 will then return the lower edge of the frame against the bottom, as shown in Figure 6.

Obviously, the cover and bottom may both be highly polished whereby they will constitute a mirror for use with the device.

It should be noted, that the bristles of adjacent strips 22 are staggered with respect to each other to reduce the normal protrusion of the same when in a lowered position.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described 'a' preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the Scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A toilet article comprising an open frame including a pair of spaced .parallel end walls, a member including a bottom wall supporting the frame and including an upstanding continuous flange embracing said frame and retaining said frame relative to said bottom wall, a plurality of spaced parallel bristle holdin members extending between and rotatably supported by said end walls, said bottom wall including a plurality of spaced parallel recesses extendin perpendicular to and between said end walls, said bristle hold. ing members each including a lower edge adapted to extend below the lower edge of said frame when the bristle holdingv members are upright, and spring means between said frame and said bottom wall for yieldingly urging said frame against said bottom wall, said spring means also retaining the lower edges of said bristle holding members in said recesses upon rotation of said bristle holding members on said end walls to an upright position and to a position perpendicular to said bottom wall. V

2. A toilet article. comprising a substantially rectangular frame including a lower edge and a pair of spaced parallel end walls, a, plurality of spaced parallel bristle holding members rotatably supported on said end walls, said bristle holding members each including a lower edge for extending below the lower edge of the frame when the members are upright, a member including a bottom wall supporting the frame and contacting the lower edge of said frame, said bottom wall having an upstanding continuous flange about said frame, said bottom wall also having a plurality of spaced parallel recesses extending between said end w'alls and underlying the lower edges of said bristle holding members when the bristle holding members are folded one against the other and against the bottom wall, and spring means forming a connection between said frame and said bottom wall yieldingly urging the lower edge of the frame against the bottom wall and also yieldingly retaining the lower edges of the bristle holding members in said recesses when the bristle holding members are upright.

The combination of claim 2, wherein each of said bristle holding members includes an elongated plate folded longitudinally upon itself to provide two juxtapositioned sections, groups of bristles clamped between said sections, and pivot pins at the ends of said bristle holding members, said end walls having spaced apertures receiving said pins.

4. A toilet article comprisin an open frame including a pair of spaced parallel end walls, a member including a bottom wall supporting the frame and including an'upstanding continuous flange. embracing said frame and retaining said frame relative to said bottom wall, a pluralit of spaced parallel bristle holding members extending between and rotatably supported by said end walls, said bottom wall including a plurality of spaced parallel slots extending between said end walls, said bristle holding members each including a lower edge adapted to extend below the lower edge of .said frame and adapted to extend through said slots when the bristle holding members are. upright, .and spring means yieldingly urging the lower edge of said frame against said bottom wall to resiliently retain the lower edges of said bristle holding members in said slots, said spring means constituting the sole means for attaching said frame to said bottom wall.
