UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOOK FOR PICTURES AND THE LIKE.
Application filed January 6, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL RosnNBLUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooks for Pictures and thelike, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hooks for hanging pictures, mirrors, tapestries, draperies and the like and it is my object to produce a simple, unitary hook which may be used either on a picture moulding or on a nail, screw or hook driven into the wall.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is an edge view of my improved hook on a moulding; Fig. 2 a front view of my improved hook; Fig. 3 an edge view of the hook on a nail; Fig. 4 a rear view of the hook in position to engage a nail, screw or hook; and Fig. 5 a detail view of the upper portion of my improved hook.
As shown in the drawing my improved hook is made of two parts permanently hinged together into a unitary article of manufacture. The first part, or body, 1 has a hook 2 to engage a picture or mirror cord or a tapestry or drapery. The second, or upper portion, 3, which engages either a picture moulding or a nail, screw or hook in the wall or other surface, has two notches A4l, with a forwardly extending stop 5.
The upper end of the body 1 has a slot 6 (best shown in Figs. 2 and 4) with which the notches 41% engage, the stop 5 lying in front of the body 1. As shown in the drawing the slot 6 is cut out at the top so that the ears can be bent to allow the notches 44 to enter it, after which the ears are bent back, to close the'slot and permanently unite the two parts.
The upper portion 3 has a key-hole slot 7 in its rear face, with the enlargement in the bottom, when the upper part 3 is turned down.
If the hookis used on a moulding the part Serial No. 807.
3 is turned up and hooked over the moulding in the usual manner, the stop 5 .hnnting 1ts forward movement. f used on a nail,
screw or hook the part 3 is turned down and rate parts to assemble or disassemble or become separated and lost.
I claim 1. As a new article of manufacture, a picture hook comprising a body provided with a slot near its upper end, a hook at the lower part adapted to engage a picture cord or the like, and an upper hook portion, notched in its lower side edges engaging the slot in the body whereby the upper portion may be turned down to engage a fastening device or up to engage a picture moulding, said upper portion being provided with a longitudinal slot adapted to engage a fastening device.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a picture hook comprising a body provided with a slot near its upper end, a hook on the lower part adapted to engage a picture cord or the like, and an upper hook portion, notched in its lower side edges, engaging the slot in the body, the end of the upper portion being forward of the body and adapted to engage the same as a stop, said upper portion being provided with a longitudinal slot in the hook adapted to engage a fastening device whereby the upper portion maybe turned down to engage a fastening device or up to engage a picture moulding.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature,
SAMUEL ROSENBLUM.
