SPRING-H INGED BRACELET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of' Letters Patent No. 252,444, dated January 17, 1882.
Application filed July 28, 1881. (ModeL) To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM HVENGEL, of the city, county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring-Hinged Bracelets, of which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a side view of my improvement, Fig. 2 is a sectiond view of the same, taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the hinged end of one part of the bracelet, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the hinged end of the other part of the bracelet.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to promote convenience in the use of spring-hinged bracelets.
The invention consists in the combination, with the two parts of the bracelet connected by a hinge and the spring, of the lug beveled upon its opposite sides, whereby the parts. of
- the bracelet will be held in position, both when opened and when closed, by the tension of the said spring, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A and B represent the two parts of a bracelet, which are made tubular, and may have knobs or other ornaments formed upon or attached to their outer ends. Upon theinner end of the part A of the bracelet are formed two lugs, O, and upon the inner end of the part B Upon the center lug, D, within the cavity'of the bracelet, is formed a lug, F, to serve as a bearing or fulcrum for the spring G, the ends of which enter the two parts A B, and which is secured at one end,by solder, ria'ets, orother suitable means, toone of the said parts, as A. The opposite sides of the lug Fare beveled or inclined in such directions that the spring G will rest upon one of the said sides when the bracelet is closed and upon the other side when.
the bracelet is opened, so that the spring G will be put under tension when the parts of the bracelet are moved out of either position in opening and closing the said bracelet.
With this construction the parts AB of the bracelet will be kept in place by the pressure let will be held in position, both when opened and when closed, by the tension of the said spring, as set forth. I ABRAHAM H. ENGEL.
