- My invention applies to such bracelets as consist of two rigid segments joined together with a hinge at one side and provided with a catch or clasp at the other; and said invention consists of a thin spring or blade provided at its ends with hooks or stops, which blade is made to fit into one or both of said segments through an opening or openings provided in the ends of said segments, which openings are made either above or below the catch which holds the bracelet together when the same is closed, and which blade serves by means of the hooks or stops before described to prevent the said segments from being opened sufficiently far to strain the joint, and at the same time sufficiently to allow the withdrawal of the bracelet from the arm over the hand while at the same time the combination of the blade and the segments has the further object of serving as a safeguard against loss by its dropping from the arm, which, when provided with my device, it cannot do without passing over the hand.

IMPROVEMENT lN BRACELETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,735, dated January 14, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. CORNELL, of the town of Derby, county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain Improvement in Bracelets, of which the following is a description:
My invention applies to such bracelets as consist of two rigid segments joined together with a hinge at one side and provided with a catch or clasp at the other; and said invention consists of a thin spring or blade provided at its ends with hooks or stops, which blade is made to fit into one or both of said segments through an opening or openings provided in the ends of said segments, which openings are made either above or below the catch which holds the bracelet together when the same is closed, and which blade serves by means of the hooks or stops before described to prevent the said segments from being opened sufficiently far to strain the joint, and at the same time suficiently to allow the withdrawal of the bracelet from the arm over the hand while at the same time the combination of the blade and the segments has the further object of serving as a safeguard against loss by its dropping from the arm, which, when provided with my device, it cannot do without passing over the hand.
Description of the Drawing.
Figure 1 shows a bracelet provided with my blade 12 or safety-piece applied to the segments under the catch-piece and under the opening for receivingthe catch-piece through the holes h h, specially provided to receive said blade. Fig. 2 shows the bracelet in longitudinal section taken through the open ends of the segments, in which 0 c are the hooks or stops on the ends of the blade I), which enters the segments through the holes h h immediately under the catch-piece k.
I do not claim the application of the blade to the end of the catch piece entering the opening especially provided for the catchpiece; but
What I do claim is as follows, viz:
A blade provided with hooks or stops, in combination with the segments of a bracelet, for the objects and purposes described.
