I JOHN MOORE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, A SSIGNOR TO 0. I.
. RICHARDS, BROWN 85 BRAC 00., OF SAME PLACE.
ELET.
PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,241, dated February 27, 1883.
Application filed September 30, 1882. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern.- I
Be it known that I, JOHN MOORE, of Provi- I dence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement in Bracelets, of which the following is a specification. A
My invention relates to an improvement in the spring-clasp which serves to hold the hinged arms of the bracelet together when upon the wrist; and it consists in the combination of one ot theh'inged artns of the bracelet presided with a projecting catch-stud narrowed at its base, with the opposite hinged arm of the bracelet provided with a concealed spring-catch,cut in one piece from sheet-metal stock, and adapted for engagement with the catch-stud, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 is an enlarged detail end view of the bracelet, with a portion of the outer plate broken away to show the construction of the clasp. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the bracelet opened. Fig.3 isaplan view, and Fig. 4 an edge view, of the spring-catch made in one piece.
In the accompanying drawings, A is the catch-stud, made to project from the center of the end of the bracelet-arm B, and is provided at its base with the notches a, a. Within the hollow of the bracelet-arm O, which is hinged to the arm B at the point D, is concealed the spring-catch E, cut from sheet metal, so as to form the two opposite spring-catches e e and the side arms,ff, which arms serve to steady the spring-catch E in its attachment to theinner surface of the edge-rim F of the bracelet and prevent it from becoming loosened from its fastening. The notches a a are made inclined or slightly rounding, so that a suitablystrong pull upon the arms of the bracelet will draw the stud A out of engagement with the catches e e of the spring-catch E, and in securing the bracelet to the wrist the stud A is forced between the opposite spring'catches e 0 until they arrive at the holding-notches a a, thus securing the arms of the bracelet to each other in a proper and satisfactory manner.
By the employment of my improved fastening for bracelets I am enabled to dispense with projecting pusher-knobs or similar disfiguratious of the bracelet at its opening-joint, and at the same time secure a simple, efiicient, and easily-operated clasp.
I claim as my invention- In abracelet, the combination of the hinged arm B and the fixed catch-stud A, provided with the notches a a, with the hinged arm 0 and the spring-catch E, provided with the opposite catches 6e and the armsff, tnade initial with the catches, and which serve to steady the spring-catch E in its attachment to .the
. bracelet-arm, substantially as described.
