WELL BUCKET. No. 251,586. Patented Dec. 27,1881.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR I I MfiW/M? 5 BY OLE ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM T. HEN DRIOKS, OF ATHENS, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO EDWIN J. RUSSELL, OF SAME PLACE.
WELL-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 251,586, dated December 27, 1881,
Application filed September '28, 1881.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. HEN- DRICKS, of Athens, in the county of Limestone and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Well-Buckets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists in the combination, with a bucket provided with pivots, of a bailframe made of a single piece of metal, and having a ring secured between the lower ends of its side pieces, as hereinafter fully described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in
which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, representing my improved well-bucket in the position it assumes upon striking the water; and Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the bucket and frame.
A represents the bucket, and B represents the bail-frame. The bucket is of ordinary construction, and is pivoted between the side pieces, I) b, of the frame by the pivots a a, which pass through the bucket above its center line, so that when out of the water the bucket will always stand right side up in the frame, as shown in Fig. 2, but will assume the position shown in Fig. 1 when lowered into the water.
Between the lower ends of the side pieces, I) b, which are formed of a single piece of strapiron, is secured by rivets or otherwise the basering D, which supports the bucket when set upon the curb of the well or other support, and
(No model.)
serves the further purpose of assisting by its 3 5 weight the sinkiu g of the bucket into the water, and prevents the bucket coming in contact with and dipping up muddy water from the bottom of the well in case the water is low.
To the bend of the side pieces, I) b, is swiv- 4o eled the eye d for raising and 1owering.the bucket and frame by means of the rope or chain f, fastened in the eye.
It will be observed that by means of the frame the bucket is supported in such manner 4 5 that the contents of the bucket may be easily emptied into another vessel by simply turning the bucket on its pivots; and it will also be observed that the frame guards and supports the bucket in such manner that it is free from dan- 5o ger of being injured by coming in contact with the walls of the well while being raised and lowered, and that free circulation of air is admitted to the bottom of the bucket, thus preventing the bottom of the bucket getting moldy and from rotting.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the bucket A, provided with the pivots a, of the bail-frame B, made of a single piece of metal, and having the ring D secured between the lower ends of its side pieces, I), substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
WILLIAM THOMAS HENDRICKS. Witnesses:
WM. R. FRANCIS, JAMES BENAGH.
