7 Olaims.

This invention relates to brassires of the type and kind employing a supporting frame for assisting in maintaining the garment upon the body of a wearer, and in proper support of the breasts. More particularly, the invention deals with garments of the type and kind under consideration which are sodeslgned as to produce a low or deep plunge type, that is to say. where the adjacent portions of the "breast pockets meet in a double contracted portion or pointed ends disposed preferably below the center parts of the breasts and so as to expose a very deep or low neck portion of the body of the wearer, thus adapting the brassiere to outer garments having low necks. Still more. particularly,- the invention deals with garmentsvof the class described wherein a supporting frame is employed at the lower portions of the pockets, theframe haying outwardly diverging loop ends terminating .in upper contracted short coupling loop ends :disposed at the corner intersections of the breast pockets with a spring loop forming a coupling or bridging member between the side frames parts. The novel features of the invention will behest understood from the following description when taken together with the accompanying drawing in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed, and in which the separate-parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, andin which:

In Fig. '1 of the drawing Ihave show one adraptation of my invention in which twolsubs-tantially similar breast pockets III-J11. are employed,

each having a long lower central dart ll-Ll' and two inner and outer side darts l2- l2' and l3-I3, extending froin the upper and upwardly converging edges 14-14 and. iii-l5 respectively. as will most clearly appear from a consideration of Fig. 2 of the drawing. This type of a brassiere has the adaptability of exposing at leastthe upper adjacent side portions of the breasts. Again considering Fig. 2, it will appear that the centers of the breasts when arranged in the:

pockets H3l0' would be substantially at the positions designated by the reference characters I ll I, thus materially higher than the corners Iii-46.

The lower edge portions |.8-l3' of the pockets lfl-lil' are abruptly flared outwardly, in the manner clearly illustrated in Figs..,l and 2 .in ex tending to the side seams, one of which is shown at IS in Fig. 1, and the other of which is shown at I9 in Fig.2. Extending from these side seams, are side and back strap or band portions 20-40 suitably joined and detachably coupled. at theback of the wearer in the usual or any desired manner, and as this particular phase of the brassire forms no part .of the present in vention, no further reference is made thereto.

Attached to the lower edge portions 1-8-18 of the pockets l0lll', are two channel forming strips, preferably of soft plush-like material 2|-2I. These strips extend from thecorners I'6l6' throughout the major portion of the length of the edges l.8l8, but "extend upwardly at the sides of the pockets, as seen at 22 inlF-ig, 1, and 22' in Fig. 2. Within the channels of the strips 2l-.'2l' are arranged breast supporting loop portions 23-23 of a supporting frame :24- Theloop portions havesubstantially straight out wardly flared ends 25--25 terminating in inturned ends 2626 which are normally positioned at the outer ends of the channels of the stripsZl-Zl'.

Inner end portions of the loops have abrup ly converging end portions 21-41 which termihate in inwardly towed or convergely arran ed: coupling loops 28- 28 which fit in the ends of the channels of the strips 2I--2l adjacent the corners l-6-l6, as clearly seen Fig. 2-01 the drawing. These coupling-ends are insertable into; and removable from the channels of the strips 2l2l' through openings 29---;29 in providing a detachable mounting -.of the. frame 24---with brassiere. In some instances, however, the supporting frame or frame members may constitute a permanent part of the breast pockets or the breast covering portions of the garment.

The frame 24 includes a central coupling or bridging member 30 comprising a large spring loop 3| joining the coupling loops 2828 in shoulder portions 32-32. On the loop 3| and shoulder portions 32-32' is arranged a tube or sleeve 33 of plastic or other material, preferably of a color in harmony with, or suitably blending with the color of the pockets ill-40' to produce a neat and finished appearance. This covering is also employed to protect the body of the wearer from contact with the frame, particularly when the latter is composed of metal. It will be understood, however, that any type of material can be employed in the frame.

It will be understood that the loop 3| provides a yieldable coupling between the breast pockets Ill-l and by shaping thecentral portion of the frame in the manner defined, a strong support is provided centrally of the frame in maintaining the corner portion iii-46' of the pockets snugly upon the body of the wearer intermediate the breasts, particularly at the low point in providin what I term the deep plunge brassiere construction. This construction of brassiere also produces a very desirable support for the breasts in maintaining the same in raised youthful position upon the body of the wearer, and particularly in using shoulder straps 3434' extending from the upper central portion of each of the pockets.

With my brassiere, a firm support of the puckets is provided at the lower intermediate and sides of the brassieres, leaving the upper part of the pockets with a flexible non-binding support, and in such manner as to leave part of the breasts exposed at the upper adjacent portion thereof for the purposes hereinbefore stated. In some cases the breasts may be completely covered.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In brassieres of the deep plunge type, a pair of pockets, said pockets having curved lower edge portions and upwardly contracted inner and outer side edge portions, the inner edge portions in combination with the lower edge portions contracting in adjacent corners centrally of the garment and at a point below the bust center of said pockets, the lower curved edge portions of said pockets having longitudinal channels, a frame having diverging curved members arranged in said channels, the channels adjacent and in spaced relation to said corners of the pockets having openings facilitating insertion and removal of the curved frame members, and said curved frame members being integrally united in a yieldable bridge portion centrally of the front of the garment.

2. In brassieres of the deep plunge type, a pair of pockets, said pockets having curved lower edge portions and upwardly contracted inner and outer side edge portions, the inner edge portions in combination with the lower edge portions contracting in adjacent corners centrally of the garment and at a point below the bust center of said pockets, the lower curved edge portions of said pockets having longitudinal channels, a frame having divergin curved members arranged in said channels, the channels adjacent and in spaced relation to said corners of the pockets having openings facilitating insertion and removal of the curved frame members, said curved frame members being integrally united in a yieldable bridge portion centrally of the front of the garment, and inner adjacent ends of said curved members being contracted substantially at said corner portions of the pockets.

3. In brassieres of the deep plunge type, a pair of pockets, said pockets having curved lower edge portions and upwardly contracted inner and outer side edge portions, the inner edge portions in combination with the lower edge portions contracting in adjacent cornerscentrally of the garment and at a point below the bust center of said pockets, the lower curved edge portions of said pockets having longitudinal channels, a frame having diverging curved members arranged in said channels, the channels adjacent and in spaced relation to said corners of the pockets having openings facilitating insertion and removal of the curved frame members, said curved frame members being integrally united in a yieldable bridge portion centrally of the front of the garment, inner adjacent ends of said curved members being contracted substantially at said corner portions of the pockets, outer side edges of the pockets joining side and back bands in side seams, and said curved members having straight end portions extending to the seams at a point above lower edge portions of the brassiere.

4. A brassiere of the character described comprising a pair of pockets, said pockets having contracted front corner portions defined by upper and lower inner edge portions of the pockets, said corner portions being arranged below the bust center of the pockets in providing a deep V-plunge at the upper central portion of the brassiere, means for supporting the pockets upon the body of the wearer, said last named means including curved frame members disposed at lower edge portions of said pockets, extending to said corner portions of the pockets, said frame members being detachable with respect to the pockets through openings in lower inner edges of the pockets, and means joining the frame members intermediate and outwardly of the pockets.

5. A brassiere of the character described comprising a pair of pockets, said pockets having contracted front corner portions defined by upper and lower inner edge portions of the pockets, said corner portions being arranged below the bust center of the pockets in providing a deep V-plunge at the upper central portion of the brassiere, means for supporting the pockets upon the body of the wearer, said last named means including curved frame members disposed at lower edge portions of said pockets, extending to said corner portions of the pockets, said frame members being detachable with respect to the pockets through openings in lower inner edges of the pockets, means joining the frame members intermediate and outwardly of the pockets, and said last named means comprising a downwardly extending curved loop.

6. In brassieres of the class described, a supporting frame for supporting peripheral edge portions of the pockets snugly upon the body of the wearer around the breasts, said frame comprising two curved breast encircling members having upwardly contracted inner ends, said contracted ends terminating in short loop members, and a downwardly extending V-shaped spring loop member integrally joining said short loop members in shoulder portions.

7. In brassires of the class described, a supporting frame for supporting peripheral edge portions of the pockets snugly upon the body of the wearer around the breasts, said frame comprising two curved breast encircling members having upwardly contracted inner ends, said contracted ends terminating in short loop members,

a downwardly extending V-shaped spring loop 10 member integrally joining said short loop members in shoulder portions, and the other free and outer ends of said curved members being substantially straight and. diverging with respect to the inner ends.
