Description
Nov. 8, 1949 R. BARCO BRASSIRE Filed May 21, 1946- Patented Nov. 8, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,487,210 BRASSIRE Rae Barco, Bronx, N. Y.
Application May 21, 1946, serial No. 671,158 (c1. 2-42) 1 Claim.
This invention relates to brassires.
Broadly, it is an object of my invention to pro- Vide a brassire with stiffened members at the middle part of the brassire positioned to separate the breasts and to provide stretchable and non-stretchable means to support the breasts.
More particularly, it is an object of my invention to provide non-stretchable and stretchable supports directed upwardly and outwardly to support the breasts, keep the brassire in place and maintain its shape.
Another object is .to'support the breasts in such a manner as to give smaller breasts a larger appearance and larger breasts a smaller appearance and to hold the breasts in a more natural position and without constriction.
Still another object is to provide a brassire particularly adapted for Women with heavy busts to properly support and retain the brassire in position upon the wearer.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of my invention, reference is had to the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the embodiments of this invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view, partly in perspective, showing the inside of the brassire.
Fig. 2 is a front View of the brassire shown in position upon the figure.
Fig. 3 is a section taken through line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, numeral I designates a brassire comprising a pair of breast pockets I i, a central reinforcing piece I2 stitched between pockets II along the vertical upper central portion of the brassire. Stitched to the lower edges` of the pockets Il is a lower section I3 having reinforcing strips I4 and l5 joined together by open Work stitching I 6. At the central portion of pockets Il and running upwardly and outwardly are open seams or pleats Il which run to the center of pockets II. On either side of the pockets I I there are stitched back pieces i8 joined by reinforcing tapes I9 to the sides of pockets II. At the extremities of back pieces I8 strap members 20 and 2| are provided; straps 20 having a series of eyelets while strap 2l has a hook 23 for fastening into any of the eyelets 22 for adjustability. At the upper portion of pockets I I the brassire is provided with shoulder straps 24 which are connected to the back pieces I8, the straps being adjustable as is well-known in the brassire art. A reinforcing tape 25 is stitched around. the edges of the back pieces I8, breast pockets Il and lower section I3.
I have provided improved means for reinforcing the brassire at the front central portion'between lthe breast pockets II for separating and supporting the breasts and to keep the brassire 1n proper position and to aid in uplifting the breasts. To ac complish this I have stitched to the inside of the brassire at the central portion thereof a pair -of upwardly converging pockets 26 in which there are sealed stiffening members 21 throughout Ithe length of pockets 26, both pockets forming an inverted V. Attached to the outer edges of pockets 26 are a pair of opposed converging non-stretchable members 28, the ends of which are stitched to an elastic member 29 which begins at the central portion of pockets 26 and extends at right angles to pockets 29 and are directed upwardly crossing approximately the central portionl of pockets II. The end of one of said members contains a series of eyelets 30 while the end of the opposite member 29 containsa hook 3| adapted to be used with eyelets 30 for adjusting the length of elastic members 29. stretches between the edges of pockets 26 and the point where the non-elastic members 28 join the elastic member 29, provides a resilient central cradle for maintaining the inside portions of the |breasts in separated and non-restricted position.
At the front central portion I have inserted a reinforcing member 32 which follows the line of the strips I4 and I5. The reinforcing member 32 acts as a terminal for the bottom of pockets 26 and also -acts to strengthen the front central portion of the brassire and further aids in the support of the lower portion of the breasts.
It will be noticed in Fig. 2 that the triangular support, created by converging pieces 2B and the central elastic piece, separates and supports the breasts giving larger breasts a smaller appearance. By supporting and lifting smaller breasts, such breasts will be given a larger appearance.
It is obvious that various changes and modii'ications may be made in my preferred embodiment herein described. However, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention.
I claim:
A lbrassire of the character described having a body girdling portion having pleats extending upwardly of said body girdling portion at spaced distances from the middle of the front thereof and terminating at a distance from the upper The elastic member 29, which` edge thereof so as to provide a fullness coming to a peak at the upper end of said pleat, a pair of straight stiiened members at the front central part of said brassire which converge upward at an angle to one another in the form of an inverted V, the upper center of said inverted V attached to the top central edge of said brassire, said stiffened members positioned one between each of said pleats and the middle front of said brassire, a stretchable member` at. tached at the center of each stiffened member for lateral tension, said stretchable members extending outwardly from said stiffened members and underlying the upper part of said brassire, a pair of non-stretchable straps of equal length attached at the opposed ends of each of said stiffened members, the other ends of said rionstretchable straps attached at a single point 4 along said stretchable member at said peak forming opposed triangles and providing resilient support and spacing means for the breasts of the wearer.
RAE BARCO.
