This invention relates to an improvement in billfolds, card cases and similar flexible pocket receptacles of the type having a transverse line of fold about which one end section is folded onto the other, the coinciding edges of the end sections being provided with cooperating elements of a slide fastener by which the receptacle is held closed in folded position.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a cover and liner construction which permits a more efficient and desirable arrangement of the slide fastener members than is possible with prior constructions.

Other and further objects will be apparent from the following specification and claim.

Referring to the drawings the cover of the receptacle is shown as comprising a single piece of leather, or similar material, generally indicated at l and a lining member 2 which, with the exception later referred to, substantially conforms in shape and dimensions to the cover. The cover, and lining are foldable about a transverse folding acne 3 to position the end sections 4 and 5 one over the other. The free edges of the end sections are provided with conventional slide fastener mei-fibers t, connected thereto by flexible tapes 1,

adapted to be brought into and out of interengagement by the usual actuating member or slider 8.

As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, wall members 9 and le secured to the inner face of the end sections l and '5 respectively. Members 9 and lll each includes a flap portion respectively indicated at l l t2, which are folded downwardly between lining 2 and members 9 and lll. An intermediate member i3 bridges the space between the inner wall end sections with its end portions telescoped between the members 9 and IU and their respective flaps H and l2.

The inner edges of tapes 'l are positioned between the edge portions of cover l and lining 2 and are secured in place by a line of stitching lit which also secures the outer and bottom edge portions of members t and lll, and the outer ends of flaps l l and l2, to the cover l and its lining 2.

Members Si, le and E3 combine to provide the inner Wall of a bill compartment of which cover member l and its lining 2 forms the outer wall. The inner wall may be variously constructed and may include additional pocket and purse forming members le and ll.

As best shown in Fig. 4 the cover member I is notched or recessed at the bottom of folding zone 3, as indicated at I8, to a depth approximating the length of the slider 3. The corresponding portion of lining 2 is notched as at it only to a depth sufficient to accommodate the change in direction of the slide fastener members 6 required to permit the receptacle to open flatly when the slider 23 is positioned in notch I8. The stitching lll follows the notch lil and as a result the portion 2d of the lining which overlies notch i8 forms a semi pocket or shield behind which the major portion of slider is positioned when receptacle is open.

By this arrangement, as clearly shown in Fig. 5, bills or papers as they are placed in the bill compartment are prevented from any contact with the slider and may be neatly and quickly seated along the bottom of the compartment. Since the slider may be, and preferably is, at the bottom when the billfold is open the upper edge of the rear wall is completely free of obstruction in inserting the bills in the pocket. In prior art construction it has been customary to place the slide fastener so that the slider would be at the top when the billfold was open. In that position it interfered with inserting bills in the pocket butl this was merely a preferable choice of evils since the interference was substantially greater when the position of the slider was reversed. By my construction interference from the slider is completely eliminated, and when the receptacle is closed and fastened the slider is positioned at the top, as shown in Fig. l, which is by far the most convenient place for it in the initial steps of opening the receptacle.

While the present invention perhaps has its greatest utility in receptacles of the billfold type, it also has substantial advantage in pass cases and similar receptacles where a plurality of pass carrying envelopes such as indicated at 2| in Fig. 6 are hinged t0 the folding zone 3 of the receptacle. As shown the envelopes 2| are hinged in any usual manner, as by a. blind staple 22 3 through the lining 2. As shown in Fig. 6 the pass envelopes may extend to the edge of the lining without interference from the slider which is positioned behind the shield forming portion 20 of the lining when the case is open.

I claim:
