(Cl. 150-38i Ldv invention relates to a ilexible container particularly adapted to be carried in the pocket and to serve as a container for paper currency, checks, cards, and the like, and one of the principal objectsof my invention is, to provide a container of the character` referred to thatY will, in addition to serving as a convenient'carrier for currency and the like, also functions as a convenient case for the license cards issued to aviators and the drivers of motor vehicles. Y

Further objects of my invention are, to provide a combined bill fold and license, case that may be easily and quickly opened and closed, to provide a construction between the halves of the case so that the same will lie dat or in the same plane when the case is opened, further, to provide a bill fold with a plurality of envelopes composed of thin sheets of transparent material and which rprovide containers for license cards of the particular type issued to airplane pilots, motor vehicle drivers, and the like, and further, to provide simple and eilicient means for binding the envelopes within the case so that said envelopes ,may be easily. and quickly inserted or removed.

A'further object of my invention is, to provide a`bill fold; andlicense case having a plurality of pockets adapted to receive cards, folded paper currency, coins, or the like, and to arrange between said pockets the folding portion of a flexible wall so :that when the `halves of the bill fold or cas are in closed position said folding portion will overlie and close said pockets, thus retaining the contents therein until the case is subsequently opened.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

Referring by numerato to the accompanying drawing and .particularly to the construction illustrated in Figs. l to'? inclusive, id designates a rectangular section of leather, leather-ette, or similar ilexible material, and which is adapted to fold on a line midway between its ends to form the two walls of the case.

Vsuitably secured to the upper, lower, and outer edges of the walls, are the complementary hook members Il of conventional, flexible slide fasteners that are engaged and disengaged by a sliding member I2. Applied. to the upper portions of the inner faces of the walls of the case are lining strips i3, the same being secured to the walls along their upper and outer end edges by rows ofstitching i4.

Arranged on the inner face of the walls Hl is an elongated rectangular section l5 of leather, leatherette, or the like, the ends'and lower edges thereof being suitably secured to the end and lower portions ofthe walls l0 by rows of stitching` Partition walls l1 of leather or the like are disposed between the outside walls Ill of the case and the inner walls formed by the section of material l5, and the outer end edges and lower edges of these partition walls Il are secured to the section of material forming the outside walls -lll and the sectionof material I5 forming the 'Y inside walls, by the rows of stitching IE. space between the partition walls 4Il and the walls III of the outer case is continuousfrom one end of the case to the other, thus providing a pocket of ample'size to'receive paper currency, checks`, and the like.

The" intermediate portion of the section of` leather I5 forming the inner walls of the case or that portion between the inner ends of the partitions l1 is extended forwardly from the inner edges of the partitions Il as designated by I8 and thence rearwardly toward the center of the section of leather forming the outside walls Il as designated by I3, thus providingsubstantially parallel flanges of double thickness that extend across the case from top to bottom at a point midway between its ends.

The inner edges of the rearwardly projecting portions I3 are integrally connected as designated by 2| and such construction provides a pocket between the flanges 20 for the reception of the inner ends of a plurality of envelopes 212 adapted to receive and hold license cards or certicates such as are issued to airplane pilots and the drivers of motor vehicles.

These envelopes are preferably formed from,

the envelopes are provided with coinciding apertures 23 through which passes an elongated'loop 24 composed of flexible material, preferably leather, and the ends thereof being brought into position adjacent each other on the outer face of one of the flanges 20. The ends of this loop are detachably connected by means of a fastening device 25 formed of resilient wire and shaped to provide a spiral having approximately .two convolutions (see Fig. 5).

When the bill fold or case is closed, the inner walls I5, the partition walls I1, and the transparent envelopes 22 lie flat against each other and they are maintained in compact arrangement by the outside walls |0 of the case, the

- edges thereof being detachably connected by the hooks of the slide fastener and which hooks are interengaged by manipulation of the slide I2. Thus when closed, the case has the appearance as illustrated in Fig. 1 and in such shape it may be conveniently carried in the pocket.

To remove one or all of the transparent envelopes in the case, it is only necessary to manipulate the coiled fastening member 25 so as to release one end4 of the flexible loop 24 and said released end may now be withdrawn from the apertures 23 in the flanges 20 and in the envelopes, thus freeing the latter.

In the modified construction illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9, the outer member` of the case is formed from a single piece of leather or the like, rectangular in shape and adapted to fold on a medial line so as to provide two walls 26, and carried by the edges of these walls are the complementary hook members 21 of a conventional slide fastener, the same being opened and closed 'by a sudmg loop n.

The central portion of the inner flexible section 3| is folded double so as to provide a flange 34 of double thickness that projects forwardly between'the side portions of the case when the same is closed (see Fig. 9).

The lower end of this doubled portion or flange 34 is cut away to form a substantially inverted U-shaped notch 35 and this fold enables the two parts of the case to be opened into flat condition without undue strains on the inner member 3|.

Thus it willv be seen that I have provided a billY fold and license case that is relatively simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture and very leffective in performing the functions for which it is intended. y

In addition to providing a simple, convenient and efllcient bill fold, the case is provided with a series of readily removable envelopes adapted to receive and hold in visible and protected condition, the license certificates or cards issued to the pilots of aircraft,i and the drivers of motor vehicles.

It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved bill fold and license case, may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope `of which is set forth in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

l. In a bill fold and license case, a section of flexible material foldable on a medial line to provide a pair of side walls, releasable .fastening means for securing said walls to each other along their upper, lower and free endl edges, narrow lining strips of flexible material overlying the upper inner faces of said sidel walls and secured thereto along their upper and outer edges, a section of flexible material arranged on the inner faces of. said side walls and secured thereto along its lower and end edges to form lopen topped pockets between said inner flexible member and said side walls, the upper edgeof 'the section of material that lies against the vinner faces of said side walls being disposed belowuthe upper edges of said lining strips and the upper edges of said 2,275,690 `side walls, portions of the ilexible member-that overlies the inner faces of the side walls being folded double adjacent its medial line to form a pair of forwardly projecting spaced flanges, a transparent envelope having its inner end positioned between said flanges, releasable means for securing said envelope to said flanges, and partitions of flexible material disposed between said side walls and the section of flexible material overlying the inner faces thereof, with the upper g portions oi said partitions overlying the lower of which last mentioned section of exible material overlies the lower portions of said lining strips, the central portion of the flexible member thatoverlies the inner faces of said side walls being folded to provide a pair of spaced outwardly projecting flanges, transparent envelopes detachably secured to and arranged between said flanges, flexible partitions arranged between said side walls and the flexible member that overles the inner faces thereof, the lower and outer end edges of which partitions are secured to the lower and outer end edges of said side walls and to the lower and outer edges of the flexible member overlying the inner faces of said side walls and the inner ends of said ilexible partitions being secured to the flexible member that overlies the .inner faces of the side walls adjacent saidflangesj LESTER L.
