My invention relates generally .to bill'folds and more particularly to means for detachablypositioning within the bill folds, a exible member adapted to receive and hold a plurality of transparent envelopes of the type usually employed as containers for license cards,;personal certificates, registration cards or like identification data and which are generallyissuedtoand carried by airplanepilots, motor vehicle drivers, and employees offfac-toriesand like Iconcerns engaged inthe production of defense supplies and materials.

The principal object of my invention is, to provide a transparent envelope carrier that is of simple, inexpensive structure and. which may be `conveniently applied to practically all forms of bill folds having a bilateral arrangement of pockets and which folds on a line between the inner ends of said pockets.

A further object of my invention is, to provide a novel form of eXible thong or strap for detachably securing .transparent envelopes or the like to the edge of a holder such as a card or the wall of a bill fold.

With the foregoing and other objects in View, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing, particularly to the form of attachment shown Vin Figs. l, 2 and 3, Ill designates the body of a conventional leather bill fold having bilat- -eral porti-ons II, which include /one or kmore pockets open at their inner end and `ad-aptedvto receive cards, stamps and the like.

The envelope carrier, according to my invention, comprises a rectangular section I2,` of thin leXibl-ematerial, preferably leather, .the er1-'dipor- -tions of which are adapted toen'ter the pocketsl I'I.

Formed'in vthemember I2 Yadjacent itsllong'itudinal edges and disposed at right angles thereto :are f pairs v of spaced parallel slits 13, L and passing therethrough and beneath the material between the slits of ea-ch pair are narrow straps or thongs I4.

When the straps are applied to the member I2, the central portions of said straps or the portions between the pairs of slits I3 adjacent the center of said member are ext-ended upward, to form inverted U-shaped portions or loops I5 which pass through short slots or apertures I6, formed in the ends of the envelopes II, which latter are generally formed of thin, flexible, :transparent material open at their outer ends.

Thus the envelopes, which may contain identication cards, passes, photographs or the like, are -detachably secured to the center of member I 2, and when the latter is properly applied to the Ibill fol-d and the latter is opened, said envelopes may be turned from yone side to another, after the manner of the leaves in a book.

In -order to provide a more secure connection between the straps I4 and carrier I2, the side edges of said strips may be provi-ded with small notches I8, spaced so that when the straps are applied to said carrier, the notches will receive the material in the carrier at the ends of the slits I3 and Ithis interlocking arrangement is m-ade effective, by making said slots slightly less in length than the width of the straps.

The flexibility of the material forming the straps enables the same to be readily threaded through the slits.

In the modified form of attachment illustrated in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, a strap I9 is provided at one end with an aperture 20 of sufcient size to permit the passage of the body of said strap and formed in the side of the strap are notches 2|.

When in use, the strap I9 is passed through aperture 20 to form a loop 2, which receives the transparent envelope 23 and the main body of said strap is threaded through apertures 24 formed in a carrier 25 of flexible material, with said apertures receiving the notched portions of said strap, thus providing an interlock between the carrier and strap.

To attach a series of envelopes or the like to the end edge of a carrier, Figs. 8 and a strap 2s similar to strap I9v is provided at one end with an aperture 21, which enables a loop 28, similar to loop 22, to be formed for engaging apertures in envelopes 29 or the like.

Formed in a flexible carrier 30 inwardly from one longitudinal edge thereof is a series of apertures 3| which receive the notched edges of the strip 26. (See Figs. 8 and 9.) e

Thus it will be seen that I have provided simple, practical and inexpensive means for flexibly and detachably mounting transparent envelopes or the like, on a carrier, which latter ,is adapted to be removably positioned in the pocket Yor pockets of a. bill fold or the like, thus enabling the pic'- tures or data bearing cards carried withinv said envelopes, to be readily displayed.

It will be understood that minor changesin the size, form, and construction of theqvarious parts of my improved envelope carrier may be made land substituted for those herein shown andvdescribed without departing from theV spirit of the invention, the scope of whichisset forth inthe appended claim.
