ALL- FLEX POCKET RAZ OR Original Filed Aug. -1, 1935 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Oct. 21, 1947 UNITED .STATES PATENT OFFICE ALL-FLEX POCKET RAZOR Charles .L Garritson, Long Island City, N. Y.
Substituted for application Serial No. 34,192, August l., 1935. This application September 10, 1945, Serial No. 615,361
(Cl. IS-SQ) 1 Claim. l
The purpose of this invention is to provide a compact safety razor in the form of a fountain pen so that it may readily be carried in the vest pocket similar to a fountain pen, in which a standard or comparatively any double edge blade may be used and in which a plurality of `said blades may be contained, and also in which the stem or straight portion may be used as the handle of the razor, said stem or handle also adapted to contain a tube of shaving cream The invention is a safety razor .having a handle resembling a .fountain pen with a comparatively small compartment detachably connected to the lower end in which the back .guard and blades of a safety razor may be contained.
Many types of collapsible safety .razors have been provided and some of these are made in the form of a fountain pen, however, these either require special blades or are made f such a size that it is objectionable to carry them in a vest pocket similar to a fountain pen land therefore it is desirable to provide a safety razor in combination with a handle resembling a fountain pen and of about the same size., in which means is provided at the end of the handle for holding the parts of the razor.
This application is a substitute for my former application which was filed August 1, 1935, with the Serial No. 34,192, which application became abandoned because the final Government fee was not paid.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a safety razor handle resembling a fountain pen with means at the lower end for holding the parts of the razor, and in which the said holding means may be removed in order to attach the razor parts thereto when in use.
Another object is to provide a safety razor having means for holding a tube of shaving cream in the handle thereof.
Another object is to provide a safety razor having a fountain pen incorporated in the handle thereof.
Another object is to provide a safety razor having a handle and a compartment for holding the razor parts in which the compartment may readily be removed and the razor parts installed in its place.
A further object is to provide a compartment at the end of a safety razor handle adapted to hold the back, guard, and blades of the razor in which a cap is provided for closing said compartment.
And a still further object is to provide a cornbination fountain pen safety razor which is of a comparatively simple and economical construction.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a safety razor having a handle resembling a fountain pen with a fountain pen cap and clip .forming a closure for a paste tube compartment in said handle, and .having a compartment at the opposite end of the handle adapted to .hold the parts of a safety razor, said compartment adapted to be removed and the razor parts installed in its place.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view showing a front elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing a side elevation.
Figure 3 is a View similar to that shown in Figure 1 on an enlarged scale showing a longitudinal section through the device with the cap omitted.
Figure 4 is a sectional plan on line 11-4 of Figure 2. y
Figure 5 is a detail showing a compartment at the lower end of the handle of an alternate design in which Aa threaded shank is provided thereon adapted to be screwed into the end of the handle.
yFigure 6 is a View showing the handle with the razor parts -attached thereto.
Figure 7 is a view taken at right angle to that shown in Figure 6 showing an alternate design in which a fountain pen 'is incorporated in the handle and the opposite end of the handle is provided with an internal thread by which it is attached to the razor parts and also to the compartment as shown in Figure 5.
In the drawings the device is shown as it may be made wherein numeral l indicates the handle, numeral 2 the razor compartment at the end of the handle, and numeral 3 the cap.
'The handle I may be made of any shape or design and may be provided with or without a cap and may also be provided with an external or internal thread by which it may be attached to the compartment 2, or to the razor parts.
In the design shown in Figures 1 and 3 the handle l is provided with a threaded shank 4 having an internal threaded opening 5 and it will be noted that the external threads of the shank 4 screw into a boss E on the upper end of the compartment 2 and the internal threads 5 screw on the stem 'l extending upward from a backing member 8 of a safety razor as shown in Figure 6. It will be understood however that the external threads on the shank 4 may be omitted and the boss 6 may be replaced by a threaded stem 9 as shown in Figure so that the same threads by which the handle is attached to the razor may also be used for attaching the compartment 2 to the end of the handle so that the external threads may be omitted. With this arrangement the lower end of the handle would be formed as shown in Figure '7 with the internal threaded opening I0 adapted to be screwed on to the stem 9 and'also adapted to be screwed upon the stem 1 of the razor.
The upper part of the handle I may be formed with a compartment II in which a tube of shaving cream I2 may be placed as shown in Figure 3 and the upper end may be covered by a closure or cap 3 which may have a clip I3 thereon as shown in Figure l, or the clip may be omitted as shown in Figures 2 and 6, or any means may be provided for holding the device. It will also be understood that the cap 3 may be made as shown in Figures 1, 2, and 6, or may also be made as shown in Figure 7 in which it is indicated by the numeral I4, and in this design the upper end of the handle which is indicated by the numeral I6, is formed with the parts of a fountain pen having a point I6, and the internal parts, which are not shown, may be arranged in any conventional form.
The compartment 2 is preferably made of a thin shell with a cap or closure Il slidably held on the lower end and it will be noted that the guard I8 and the backing 8, with a small number L of razor blades may be placed in this compartment and held by the cap I'I. rI'hese parts of the razor may be made as shown or may be of any conventional design as it will be understood that this invention relates to the combination of the compartment for holding the parts of a razor on the end of a handle resembling a fountain pen in which the compartment may be removed and the parts of the razor attached to the handle in its place so that they may be used as a razor. In this design however, the razor is formed with the guard I8, and the backing member 8 and the backing member is provided with the threaded stem 1 and guide pins I9 and 20 which locate a razor blade 2| hereon and extend through openings in the guard I8. The edges of the guard are provided with comb teeth as shown.
It will be understood that other changes may be made in the construction Without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changs may be in the shape or design of the com partment 2 as it will be understood that this may be designed to accommodate razor parts of any type, another may be in the shape or design of the handle as it will be understood that this may also be made to accommodate a razor of any type,
and still another may be in the use of other means for attaching the compartment and razor parts to the handle.
The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the razor may be provided as shown and described and normally the clip I3 may be snapped over the edge of a pocket or held to the edge of a shirt or garment, or the device may be carried in a pocket, handbag, traveling bag or any device; and when it is desired to use the device the compartment 2 is removed from the handle, the razor parts removed therefrom, assembled in the proper order, and attached to the lower end of the handle. The device may then be used for shaving, and the shaving cream may be removed from the handle and used. It is preferred to make the compartment 2 of sucient size to hold four or ve razor blades, however it will be understood that this may be of any size.
Having thus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a pocket safety razor of the fountain pen type, the combination, which comprises, an elongated tubular razor handle having a reservoir exten-ding inward from one end and an exteriorly threaded nipple with a centrally disposed threaded socket in the end thereof at the opposite end, a relatively small casing with comparatively thin walls the length of which in cross section is substantially greater than the width and the Width of which is substantially the same as the diameter of the handle, said casing being open at one end and carrying a threaded hub at the other wherein the threads of the hub coact with the threads at the end of the handle to removably mount the casing on the handle, a closure of the same shape in cross section as the casing frictionally mounted on the open end of the casing, said casing providing a housing for a safety razor blade, comb, and back with the parts removed from the handle, and a cap providing a closure for the reservoir in the opposite end of the handle frictionally mounted on the handle.
