Description

Sept. 29, 1936. E. M. CHAPPELL 2,055,924 I I VIBRATOR AND HANDLE THEREFOR Filed Feb. 13, 1936 v fidwa'rdmaa u Patented Sept. 29, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,055,924 I VIBRATOB AND HANDLE THEREFOR Application February is, 1988, sea-in No. 84,537 a Claims. (01. soc-c) This invention relates to a vibrator, of the kind used in massaging, and an improved handle structure for mounting or holding the same.
The vibrator is of the" type having a body formed preferably cylindrical and carries on its outer surface a plurality of studs, or buttons, adapted for use in attaching the body to various holders, and in the present instance to a handle type of holder.
The primary object of the invention is toprovide an improved handle for mounting the vibrator.
Another object is to provide such. a handle including a ring portion which serves to embrace the vibrator body and includes means cooperating with the studs to hold the handle in a fixed position relative to the b Still another object is to provide such a handle which may be quickly and easily attached to or be detached from the vibrator body, as desired.
Also it is an object to provide such a handle which is cheap and simple to produce and which will effectively serve the purposes for which it is provided.
Other objects will become apparent to those.
skilled in this art as the disclosure is more fully made.
Briefly, such objects are achieved in, cmblnation with a vibrator body carrying headed studs or buttons by providing a handle having a ring shaped head adapted to slide over one end of the body and embrace the same, said ring being formed with slots to fit around the shanks ot the studs to hold the ring against angular displacement relative to the body. The handle has a rotatable part for abutting a set screw included in the handle firmly against the head of one of the studs, whereby detachably to lock the handle to the body.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings is illustrated a practicable form or the invention for purposes oi the disclosure. In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a reduced scale, rear end view oi the assembled vibrator and handle;
Figure 2, on the same scale, shows a general side elevational view of the vibrator and handle; Figure 3 is a front end, elevational view, on the same scale, of the combination;
Figure 4 is a central, longitudinal sectional view through the handle, per se, shown full size; and,
Figure 5 is a full size, end elevational view of the handle, per se.
The vibrator shown is cylindrical and at one end includes a boss H for detachably mounting any suitable form of applicator l2 useful in massaging a part of the human body, responding to such treatment. Near its front, or applicator end, the body l0 securely carries a number of angularlyspaced headed which preferably all lie in the same plane.
The improved handle device comprises an integraiiy formed head it inthe form of a ring having a diameter adapting it to fit slidably over the head end of the body ill in as snug a 10 manner as possible. Said ring is formed with a plurality of slots I! cut out from one edge, with each of the slots properly spaced to receive the shank of a stud II when the ring is slid onto the body. Therihg to save weight is generally made as narrow as possible but each portion thereof in line with' a slot i8 is'widened out by scalloped extensions as shown at It.
The ring head It includes an integral neck portion i1 formed adjacent one of the slots I5,
said neck having a pocket It formed therein in registration with the said slot l5. This neck I! is formed with an axial bore into which threadedly fits a screw threaded shank l9 caried on a block 20 serving to connect the neck' I! with a handle 2|. This handle is rotatably mounted in relation to the neck I! and when it is turned it causes the block I. to turn therewith. Since the screw shank II also must turn with the block it follows that by handle 21 the screw shank I! may be threaded into or be backed out of the pocket l8. The head of the stud it which enters the slot l5 and pocket ll may therefore be clamped or unclamped by the set screw lines in Figure 4 is shown the stud locking positionoi' the screw it and in the dotted lines the same is shown retracted.
It will thus be seen that an improved handle device has been provided for the type disclosed, which device is handy for the purposes intended. It can be quickly and easily applied or removed from the vibrator as desired and when in place firmly holds the vibrator in from or shift relative thereto. This is important since the vibrator vibrates at high speed.
It is the intention to cover herein all changes and modifications of the preferred example disclosed, which do not in material respects-con- 50 ing'studs fixed to its outer surface in spaced rela- 55 studs, or buttons I3, 5
means of the tumable ll as desired. In full a vibrator body of the sense that it cannot be displaced theretion, or a holder for the vibrator comprising a head in the form of a loop adapted to fit slidably over the body, said loop including slots alined with the studs to receive same, and means for fastening the holder removably to one of said studs.
2. The combination with a vibrator body having studs fixed to its outer surface in spaced relation, of a holder for the vibrator comprising a ring shaped head adapted to embrace the body, said head being formed with slots to receive the studs, the ring being provided with widened portions in line with the slots, and means for fastening the holder removablv to one of said studs.
3. The combination with a vibrator body having headed studs mounted thereon in spaced relation, of a ring shaped head adapted to fit over the body, said head including slots to receive the shanks of the studs, and means including a handle for removably fastening the head to a stud. I 4. The combination with a vibrator body having headed studs mounted thereon in spaced relation, of a ring shaped head adapted to flt over the body, said head including slots to receive the shanks of the studs, a neck portion included in the head and having a slot formed therein to engage over a shank of one of the studs, said neck also including a pocket to receive the head of the stud positioned in the neck, and a handle including means for detachably fastening the holder to the stud engaged by the neck.
5. The combination with a'vibrator body having headed studs mounted thereon in spaced relation, of a ring shaped head adapted to flt over the body, said head including slots to receive the shanks of the studs, a neck portion included in the head and having aslot formed therein to engage over a shank or one or the studs, said neck also including a pocket to receivethe head or the stud positioned in the neck, a tunable handle carrying a block including a set screw threadedly carried in the neck, said screw engaging the head of the stud disposed in the pocket when the handle is turned in the proper direction to lock the head to the head of the stud.
6. The combination with a vibrator body having headed studs mounted thereon in spaced relation, of a ring shaped head adapted to fit over the body, said head including slots to receive the shanks of the studs, the head including a neck, a handle turnably mounted on the neck including a set screw threadedly carried in the neck and adapted to engage the head of a stud to lock the handle to the body.
7. The combination with a vibrator body carrying headed studs in spaced relation and lying in substantially the same plane, of a holder comprising a ring to fit over the body and provided with slots to receive the studs with the heads thereof disposed outside the ring, and a handle attached to the ring.
8. The combination with a vibrator body carrying headed studs in spaced relation and lying in substantially the same plane, of a holder comprising a ring to fit over the body and provided with slots to receive the studs with the heads thereof disposed outside the ring, a neck included in the ring and provided with a cavity to receive a stud and its head, a handle connected rotatably to the neck, and means operable by the handle and carried in the neck to lock the holder detachably with the stud embraced by the neck.
