Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 5 but illustrating a further modification of the ring clip.
Fig. 3 is a' fragmentary elevational view of the bottom portion of another strap to be used in the mans garter.
Fig. 9 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 9--9 of Fig. 8.
Fig. 10 is a fragmentary illustration similar to Fig. 1 but disclosing a modiiied construction of the mans garter.
Fig. i1 is a fragmentary enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on the line lI-i I of Fig. 10.
The self-adg'usting mans garter, in accordance with that form of the invention disclosed in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, includes a fiat hook-like u ring clip, lil having a hat base, ll continuing into a short arcuate neck l2 which continues into a nat top. hook portion I3. A garter strap ifi is attached to said flat base i i and is intended to extend around ones leg and then through said clip lo and then down for connection with the top of a piece of hose by a detachable and adjustable gripping device. The flat base Il is formed with an opening l5 through which the end of the strap i4 is engaged and turned down. The turned down portion of said strap I4 is secured in position by a line of stitches l'I. The garter strap i4 may be in the nature of a ribbon,
'a strap, an elastic strap, or any other suitable garter strap.
The short arcuate neck l2 is formed with sevy eral serrations 2%), or gripping elements, or portions. These serrations 20 extend radially along the flat base Il and are capable of engaging the strap i4 for holding the strap from sliding. The free end oi the strap lil is provided with a detachable and adjustable gripping device by which the strap i4 may be connected with the top of a piece of hose. This detachable and adjustable gripping device comprises a back' plate 2| and a front platel 22. The back plate 2| is formed with a plurality of spaced openings 2ic and 2id, Vand the'front plate 22 is formed with an opening 23. The strap lli is laced through openings 2|c and 2id to facilitateits gripping and adjustment in plate 2l, and through openingl 23 in. plate 22 and through the upper opening 2i in -plate 2l to allow the strap ld to move freely for adjustment. The lower edge of opening 23 in the front portion 22 and the upper edge of the opening 2 ld in the rear portion 2l are formed with gripping teeth for firmly holding the strap Ill. The back plate is provided with a hook-like projection 24 which engages a complementary bayonet opening 25 in the front plate 22, by which the detachable and adjustable gripping device may be connected with the top edge portion of a piece of hose. The back plate 2l is also provided with inward projections 21a, spaced at 2lb to permit the strap I4 to be inserted when the garter is in gripping position, and to be removed when it is desired to disengage the hose. When the strap I4 is removed through the spacing 2 Ib, the plates 2I and 22 may be separated as shown in Fig. 4. In Fig. 1 the garter is shown in position on a leg 26. It should be noted that the strap I4 extends from the dat base II around the leg, and then through the ring clip I0, and then down to the leg, and then down to the hose 21. In Fig. 7 short ribs 20 are provided in the arcuate neck I2'. Raised surfaces 26a extend inwardly and in intcrlocking relation, from the hase I I and the hook portion I3 to grip the strap I4.
In Figs. 8 and 9 another embodiment of the same invention is disclosed. In this embodiment the strap I4 is provided with an adjustment buckle 3l! by which portions of it may be let out or pulled into control the length of the strap. The strap I4 is also provided with a gripping device, comprising a back plate 3I and a front plate 32. The back plate 3| has a hook element 3.3 which is engageable through a bayonet slot 35 formed in the iront plate 32.
In Figs. and 11 still another form of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the prior form distinguishing merely in the fact that the flat hook-like ring clip 38 as a flat base 39 which continues into a short arcuate neck 4I) which in turn continues into a at top hook portion 4I. The outer edge of this at top hook 4I is formed with an outwardly flared flange portion 2 at the base of which there is a groove 43. This groove 43 extends arcuately along the arcuate edge of the flat top hook portion 4 I. The outer edges 44 of the garter strap I4 are enlarged, or thickened, or formed with a exible bead. This may be done by rolling the edge portions of the strap I4. The beaded, or rolled edges 44 are sewed or cemented to maintain its thickened form.
One of the other of the beaded or rolled edges 44 is capable of being snapped inwardly past the ared ange portion 42 of the top hook portion 4I so as to assume a position along the length of the groove 43. The flexible beads 44 supports the outer edge of the strap I4 preventing it from becoming crumpled within the hook portion 4I of the ring clip 38. The strap I4 is capable of being slipped forwards or backwards through the ring clip 38. It may also be removed from the groove 43 merely by pulling it out.
