F. HIRSH Filed July 18. 1923 A TTORNE Y Patented Feb. 12, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED HIBSH, or
NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
To all who m may Be it known that I,
FASTENER.
Application filed July 18, 1923. Serial No. 652,313.
concern: Fnnn Hinsi-i, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, county and certain new and useful Imhave invented proveinents in Fasteners, of which State of New York,
the following is a specification.
My present invention relatesto a fastener, and more particularly to a slotted metallic plate or slide which at with an integral hook tion with an eyelet,
the back is provided whereby, in co-operaloop, or other complementary member, a strap may be adjustably and detachably connected to another part of the same strap or to article. c
The object thereof piece, which which may be cheaply made,
slidably adjustable is neat and attractive in appearance,
a different strap or is to provide a onehook member and which is efficient for the purpose in viewand will not readily become detached.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawlng, where- 1 is a front or strap equipped with my improved fastening member and thereby strap; Fig.
2 is a perspective view a second of the attached to parts separated, showing the back of the fastener Fi g. 3
is a longitudinal section through the fastener b-y itself and through the upper or back therein; Fig. back of a modified of the end of a strap for co-operation with ener; and Fig. 5 is a strap and the eyelet set 4 is'a perspective view of the form of the fastener and provided with a loop the hook of the fastview of this last. fastener in longitudinal section.
As illustrated in Figs. 1-3, 6 indicates a double strap or tab, depending from a garment, in the'outer fold of which is set an eyelet 7 and 8 indicates the end of a sec ond strap-that of a hose-supporter, for ex ample-upon which the'fastener 9 1s mounted. The fastener pro per, stamped out and shaped up from a thinsheet of metal, c011- sists of a body or slide, provided with two transverse slots and the resulting three bars, which is upset to form a stiffening flange 10 along both sides and across each end, and of a hook 11, integral with thev intermediate or middle bar, which hooks into the eyelet.
One feature of the hook is that it is formed in part from the mat erial cut from one of the slots and in part from the middle bar inner edge of the eyelet, and a convexity or new YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE ADJUSTA ooMrA vr, me, or t rounded hump 13 which by engaging the back of the eyelet serves as a means for largely preventing any accidental separation of the hook from theeyelet. The hook is also upset, near its outer end, to provide a sli ht forward projection 14: which further serv s to lockit within the eyelet and so to prevent the accidental disengagement of the 7 parts.
This fastener is equallyadapted, its position being-reversed, for the attachment of the shoulder strap to acorner of the bib of a childs overalls, or it may be used in any connection or for any purpose desired.
The form of fastener 9 shown in Figs. 4 and 5 is designed especially for use on galoshes, or for fastening the straps of ladies low shoes and slippers, either in cooperation with an eyelet or with a metallic or other loop 7. Here the stiffening flanges are turned forwardly, the outwardly curved side flanges 10 forming with the body a channel of a depth to receive the strap, while the transverse flanges 10*, integral with the sides offthe middle bar. serve in connection with the slots to prevent the slipping of the strap. The hook 11 is formed wholly within the middle bar, which is wide enough for the purpose, and is provided with the locking projection 14 sufficient to prevent the accidental disengagement of the hook from a loop; hence, when the fastener is to be used in co-operation with a loop, tlie'rounded hump at the back ofthe hook may if desired be omitted. What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A one-p ece metallic fastener comprising which is usually found a slotted body or slide which is upset to.
'tion.
