FASTENER Filed Dec. 20, 1930 INVENTOR zwm 6. Mi;

The present invention relatestofasteners and more particularly to the type employing a member slidable ona strap, belt orthelike,
to obtain difierent adjustments thereon, this I l 5 application being a division inpart of an ap plication filed by me on the 7th of June,;1928, 'Serial No. 283,646. An object of thisinvention isto provide a construction in Whichthe slidable member may be made:inexpensivelyv 10 from a single piece of sheet metal without j any substantial waste ofmaterial.
To this and other ends, the invention'co nsists-of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter dein the appended claims. I 2 In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a view of amansgartei'embodying this invention;
member in position on the :strap of the garter. I v
In the drawings is shown-a garter for men having'its leg encircling portion formed of two strap pieces 1 branched from a pad 2 from which the garment clasp 3 is suspended.
On one strap piece is secured a loop 4 for I engaging. a slide member on the other strap V 1ece. c Y
' p The slide member is formed from a single piece of sheet material and comprises three p par'allelbars 5, 6 and '7,'sepa rat edby two parallel slots 8 and 9,-equi-distantf-rom oppositesides of the slide and eac'hjhaving its,
outerside nearer the adjacent side of the slide than the inner side of the two slots are to each otheig-sothat the bar 6 is wider than the bars 5 and/7. At theupper and the lower edges of the slide are provided rear wardly projecting cross pieces orflanges 10 and the slots 8 and 9 extend to these flanges. The bars 5, 6 and 7 are arranged on a curve which throws the bar 6 slightlyin advance of the bars '5. and 7. A strap piece 1 passes. through the slots 8 and 9 in rear'of the bars 5 and? and in'frontof thelbar 6, and this strap piece has a longitudinally extending,
scribed, the novel features being pointed out,
lFig. 2 is a front vlewof the slide member;i Fig. 3 is a rearview of the slide member;v
' Fig. 4 is a sectional view through the slide a series of openings or holes 11 into any one, of i which may 7 enter a rearwardl y extending tongue 12 formedon the inner edge of the bar 5. This'tongueis formed froinmetal cut fromithe slot 8. and the recess 13 in the bar 6. Ordinarily the friction of the strap.
"on the bars. 5, 6 and 7 will hold the slide in an adjusted position, but the tongue 12 insures theslide against movement on the strap.
In order thattthe slide may be engaged by 1; i
the loop 41,fan anchoring device is provided on the slide in the form of a hook '14 in the :torm of a U shapedmemberhaving its ends connected to the {bar 6 substantially. at the middle of the latter, thecentral portion of i the member lying in rear of the bar 6. in
spaced relation tothe latter and the arms being curved and connecting to the bard The U- shaped. hook has-its central portion formed of metal cut from the slot 9 and its v ends from metal cutfrom the bar 6.
The slide construction is not only neat in p appearance but it hasamaximum strength i for a structure madeffrom sheet 'metal and i no material wastegis present in its construce tion'. The strength is obtained through'the rearwardly projecting side flanges which also act to hide the-inner ends of the hook when p the slide is viewed-from the side I vWhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure vby Letters Patent is:
1. A slide formed from sheet metal and having a slot through which a strap may ass, 311(1'311' anchoring device arranged on the rear of the slide. to one side of the slot,
said anchoring device being formed from a V U, shaped member'cu tgfrom the stockof the slide, the central portion being'formed' from metal cut from the slot and the end portions being 'cut'from metal to one side of the slot and having bends therein which throw the centralportion inthe rear of theslide and V I to one sideof the slot. p
Asfslide for straps'consistingof sheet metal having aportion'partly cut therefromt to providea slot for the passage of a strap and lateral slots,the portion thus separated being substantially of U shape and bentupon itself to provide ahook in the rear ofthe slide.
- 3. A sheet metal slide for straps having opposite edge portions flanged, and having spaced slots terminating adjacent the flanges and forming a middle and side bars, the slide having a tongue at the outer side of one of the slots, and having the portion out therefrom to form the other slot, of substantially U shape and bent upon itself to provide a hook in the rear of the slide and upon the 10 same side thereof as the flanges.
