Description

(NoModeL) 0. W. MOON Trace Buckle;
No. 240,446 Patented April 19,1881.
J III/IA m ATTORNEYS.
N, PETERS, PHOTO-UTNOGRAFMER. WASHINGTON. Dv C.
UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. OSCAR W. MOON, OF DAYTONVILLE, IOWA.
\ TRACE-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,446, dated April 19, 1881.
Application filed March 2, 1881.
To all whom it mag/concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR ,WILLIS Moon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Daytonville, in the county of Washington and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trace-Buckles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a trace-buckle which shall be easily operative with as little strain as possible upon the leather, and at the same time furnish protection to the wearing part of the trace from ,the weather.
My invention consists in a metallic casing having a tongue pivoted in one of its open ends and a central-transverse slot in its inner side for receiving a loop attached to the hametug, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an outside view of my invention as it appears when attached to a hame-tug, and Fig. 2 a central vertical section.
The casing A, which is of metal, is made of any suitable shape, but preferably with four sides, three of which slope gradually from the center to the ends, so as to hold the trace snugly, and to allow room in the center of the chamber for the operation of the metallic loop B, which is inserted at a transverse slot, at, in the fourth or straight side of the said casing. At the forward end of the casing, pivoted to the straight or inner side thereof, is a tongue,
a, which lies across the open end, resting in a notch or recess, a cut in a re-enforced projection on the opposite side, which serves as a bearing for the same.
(No model.)
substantial and reliable in its operation, but
easily adjustable, and at the same time an ornament to a harness.
I am aware that a buckle consisting of a casing having a tongue at one end is not new. 1 therefore do not claim such a device, broadly; but
What I desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A trace-buckle consisting of a metallic casing having a tongue at one end and a transverse slot in its inner side, in combination with a bent coupling-loop, substantially as shown and described, and for. the purpose set forth.
2. In a trace-buckle, the casing A, having end ward sloping sides, transverse slot a, tongue at, and recess a in combination with bent coupling-loop B, haine-tug O, and trace D, substantially as shown and described.
OSCAR WILLIS MOON.
