IMPROVEMENT IN HALTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,586, dated July 30, 1878 application filed June 19, 1879.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SoMERs S. LELAND, of Quincy, in the county of Branch and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Halters, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in the construction of halters; and the invention consists, first, in the peculiar slotted fastening-plate; and, second, in the peculiar halter composed of a continuous strap, a ring, and a slotted plate, as fully hereinafter explained.
Figure 1 represents my improved halter as adjusted to a horse. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the fastening-plate. Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective of the strap, ring, and fasteningplate. Fig. 4 is a perspective View, showing a strap adjusted to prevent the ring from slipping. Fig. 5 is a section on line 00.90, in Fig. 4.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a metallic plate, in which are cut the two slots 0, which are provided-with the studs I).
A strap, 13, of leather or other suitable material, has one end secured in one of the slots a, a hole in said strap engaging with one of the studs 1). The strap is carried forward through a ring, 0, and back, forming the nosenoose c, thence upward and back through the ring, forming the head-noose d, to the slot. (1,
upon the opposite side of the plate A, where it is secured, as before described, the remain ing portion of the strap servin g as a tie-strap.
If desired, sliding metallic loop-bands f may be put upon the sides of the nose and headloops, and be connected together by cheekstraps D, which will retain the noseloop in its proper position upon the nose of the animal wearing the halter.
After the halter has been adjusted to fit a certain animal, if desired, a small strap, E, may be passed through the ring 0, and secured in the slots h of the plate A, which will keep the parts in their relative positions as adjusted.
By this manner of constructing a halter agreat amount of labor and material is saved.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is- 1. In a halter composed of a continuous strap, the fastening-plate A, having slots a and studs b, to which the ends of such strap are secured, substantially as described and shown.
2. A halter composed of the continuous strap B, ring C, and plate A, provided with the slots a and studs b, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
