Description

GAG-RUNNERS FOR HARNESS;
No.184,3Z5 Patented Nov.14.1876.
VitIIGQSGQ Ilu'en (a W w UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM M. BLAINQOF SALINAS CITY, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAG-RUNNERS FOR HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,325, dated November 14, 1876; application tiled August 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. BLAIN, of Salinas City, county of Monterey, and State of California, have invented an Improved Gag-Runner and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to anovel construction of a gag-runner and a brow-band loop for harness in one piece, which may have an ornamental rosette attached to it or not, as may be desired. 7
Referring to the accompanying drawings for a more complete explanation of my invention, A is a metallic loop, through which the check-rein passes at the inner end. This loop is gradually flattened out, as at B, and at the end of this flattened portion a loop, 0, is turned up to receive the brow-band. These loops A and O are all made in one piece, of malleable iron or other suitable metal, and maybe used without any additional part. If, however, it
' be desired to attach the plate D to the device,
the plate may be made with projecting flanges E, between which the flattened portion B slides, and is held in place by means of a shoulder, F, upon its back. By this means I am enabled to form the two loops in one piece, and when the plate D is used it may be made without theusual loop, which must be soldered or otherwise made fast to it.
I am aware that a gag-runner hlas heretofore been constructed, forming the two loops and the rosette in one piece, and others been attached to a rosette in various ways, and I do not claim the device, broadly; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A gag-runner, consisting of the flattened portion B, the brow-band loop 0 at the upper rear end, and the gag-runner loop A at the lower end, all formed in one piece, substantially in the manner set forth.
2. The plate D, with its flanges E, in combination with the metallic gag-runner loop A, having the brow-band loop 0 withthe shoulder F, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
WILLIAM M. BLAIN.
Witnesses FRANK A. BROOKS, OLWYN T. STAoY.
