TR ACE-CARRI ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,398, dated April 19, 1881. Application filed March 3,1881. (NomodeL) ing the front end of a trace or tug to the collar or hame or other part of the harness.
The invention consists in a novel construction of a frame and a pivoted hook arranged and operating in connection therewith, whereby provision is made for the attachment of the trace and for holding it securely in place, as
hereinafter particularly described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front or side view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 3 is a section taken in the line w of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a frame made of malleable cast-iron or other suitable metal, and japanned, plated, or ornamented in any suitable manner. It is provided with loops at and a at its ends and sides to facilitate its attachment by means of straps to the collar, hames, belly-band, or other part of a harness. The central portion of the frame A extends outward from the plane of the loops a a and is formed into two straight bars, B B, each of which has an L- shaped slot, 8, in its side. Between these two bars work two hooks, D D, each of which has a pin, 6, projecting laterally from its heel and engaging with one of the slots .9. Each hook D is bent at about a right angle, and near its point, on the outer edge or side, is a shoulder, f, and above this shoulder is a roughened surface, g.
In the center of the frame A and running longitudinally thereof, immediately under the bars B, is a bar, H, the central portion of which is curved outward, and its ends are provided with slots 41 and are joined onto transverse bars L L.
In attaching the trace the hook D is moved outward by pressing With the thumb or finger on the roughened surface g. This causes the pin 6 to move in the slot 8, so as to allow the point of the hookto be retracted sufficiently to allow the cockeye m to be inserted between the bar L and the point of the hook, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The hook is then moved-inward again, so as to cause the point of the hook to enter the slot 71 and the shoulder f to catch under the transverse bar L, as shown in the drawings, and thus prevent the displacement of the cockeye. The heel of the hook is so formed as to prevent it from being moved 6o out-ward too far.
This frame may be carried by the collar and only one of the hooks used, or ,it may be carried by the belly-band and one of the hooks used for the trace and the other for a strap leading to the collar.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a trace-carrier, the frame A, provided with the loops a M, the straight bars B B, the curved bar 'H, provided with the slots *5, and the transverse bars L L, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
2. In a trace-carrier the hook D, provided with the shoulder f, the roughened surface g, and the pin 0, in combination with the bar B, provided with the slot 8, and the transverse bar L, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, a trace-carrier made substantially as herein described, consisting of the frame A, provided with the loops (1, a longitudinal straight bars B B, curved bar H, and transverse bars L L, 85 and carrying the pivoted hooks D D, as set forth.
