Definitions

  • the present invention relates to improvements in cosmetic containers, and relates more particularly to an improved type of retractable lipstick case.
  • the main object of my invention is to provide an improved type of retractable lipstick case wherein a refill may be conveniently inserted after the original lipstick has been used up.
  • Another object of my invention is to provide a retractable lipstick case of the swivel or other type wherein the remains of the old lipstick may be conveniently removed through the bottom .of the case and replaced by a. refill cartridge.
  • Still another object of my invention is to provide a retractable lipstick case of the swivel or push type wherein the bottom cap or wall of the case is removable, thus permitting the extraction of the remains of the old lipstick and its holder and the subsequent insertion of a refill.
  • a further object of my invention is to provide a lipstick case of the type above set forth whereinthe lipstick holder is normally confined within the case and may be removed therefrom only after theparts of said case assume a certain predetermii'ied relative position.

  • Fig. 'I is a perspective View of the retractable lipstick holder.
  • the body member B comprises the outer casing I0, the retractable lipstick holder il and the bottom capping member l2.
  • the outer casing member l0 is preferably cylindrical in shape although it may assume any desired shape, such as of polygonal or elliptical transverse cross-section, said casing member being open at both. ends and having a pair of diametrically opposed longitudinal slits formed in the wall thereof, said slits extending from the bottom of the casing member to points below the top thereof.
  • the casing l0 is made of resilient flexible material such as certain well-known alloys or plastics so that the lower portions of the casing wall which is divided by the slits i3 may be manually forced together and will return to their normal separated position when the pressure is removed.
  • the lipstick holder or collar il Slidably positioned within the casing member l0 is the lipstick holder or collar il, said holder having a transverse cross-section similar to that of the casing I0 and having the bottom portion i6 having the aperture il formed therein.
  • the bottom cap member l2 is of circular shape and has the vertical peripheral wall 20.
  • Formed in the inner face of 'said ⁇ peripheral Wall 2U is the groove or concavity 2l, the surface of said groove 2l having substantially the same contour and shape as the outer surface of the lip or convexity Hl when the divided walls of the casing are in normally expanded position.
  • the casing I0 should be made of the material hereinbefore set forth while the remainder of the case may be made of any suitable and desirable material such as wood, plastic, metal, etc.
  • the lower edges return to their normally expanded position and the lip I4 snugly engages the groove 2i.
  • the pintles i3 maintain and substantially lock the walls of the casing in their expanded position, thus preventing the removal of the bottom cap l2.
  • FIGs. 5-7 there is shown my invention as applied to the swivel type of retractable lipstick case.
  • the body member consists primarily of an outer casing 32, intermediate casing 33,'inner casing 34, the retractable lipstick holder 35 and the bottom cap member 36.
  • the outer casing is cylindrical in shape and has formed along its upper edge the inwardly projecting flange 31. Rigidly fitted within the outer casing 32 is the intermediate casing 33, said intermediate casing having the helical slit 38 and the longitudinal slit 33 formed therein, the former slit opening atI the bottom of casing 33 and terminating at a point below the top thereof, and the slit 39 extending the entire length of the casing and meeting slit 38 at the bottom thereof.
  • the intermediate casing 33 is made of a resilient material, the slit 39 allowing the transverse compression of said casing, thus permitting the assembling of the outer and intermediate casings.
  • the upper edge of casing 33 is below the lower face of iiange 31, thus forming the peripheral recess 40.
  • the inner casing 34 Rotatably mounted within the intermediate casing 33 is the inner casing 34, said casing being longitudinally maintained by engagement of the peripheral recess 40 with the bead 4l formed in the wall of casing 34 near the top thereof.
  • the lower edge of the inner casing 34 has the peripheral shoulder outwardly, laterally extending therefrom, the outer edge of said shoulder having the depending flange 43.
  • a longitudinal slit 44 is formed in casing 34, which slit starts at 42 and terminates-at a point below the top of the inner casing.
  • the lipstick holder 50 Slidably mounted within the inner casing 34 is the lipstick holder 50, said holder having the cylindrical wall 5l and the bottom wall 52, said bottom wall 52 having formed therein the aperture 53.
  • the bottom cap member 35 frictionally engages the outer face of the inner casing flange 4c3l and may be convenienti and manually remove
  • the lipstxick holder 50 and contained lipstick may be raised or lowered by rotating the inner casing relative to the intermediate casing. which movement may be performed by rotating the cap member 55 relative to the outer casing.
  • the cap member is normally rigid with the inner casing, and the intermediate casing is fixed to the outer casing, the aforementioned relative motion is thus achieved. Further, since slit 44 will intersect helical slit 38 at a level depending upon the relative rotational position of said slits and since the lipstick holder pintle must register with both slits, the longitudinal position of said holder is determined by the relative posi tions of said slits, which in turn may be manually determined as above described.
  • the holder 50 In order to replace a depleted lipstick, the holder 50 is brought to its lowermost position at which position the bottom openings of helical slit 38 and slit 44 coincide, thus permitting the removal of holder 50 through the lower end of the case upon removal of the cap 55.
  • the old lipstick is then replaced by a refill cartridge, as described in the first embodiment, the holder and lipstick inserted in the case, the holder pintle registering with the slits 38 and 44 at their bottom openings and the cap 55 reset,
  • said casing member a cap member, said cap member having means adapted to engage the lower edge of said casing member, said cap member being locked in position at the lower end of the casing member when the holder is below its topmost position relative to said casing.
  • a retractable lipstick case of the reflllable type comprising a resilient flexible casing member, said casing member having a pair of diametrically opposite longitudinal slits formed therein, said slits extending to the bottom of said casing member, a lipstick holder slidably mounted within said casing member, said lipstick holder having a pair of dlametrically opposite pintles projecting from the wall of said holding member, said pintles slidably engaging the longitudinal slots' and flexing said casing-member, the lower portion of the casing member having a peripheral lateral projection, a cap member, said cap member having a cylindrical wall, said wall having a peripheral groove formed in its inner face, said groove vbeing adapted to engage said casing projection.
  • a retractable lipstick case comprising a tubular casing provided with a lengthwise slit opening through one end thereof, an outwardly projecting lip at said one end of said casing member, a removable cap member for said casing member, said cap member including' a bottom wall and anV annular side wall, said side wall being so formed on the inner side thereof to receive seid 11p to thereby loci eem een member on seid end whereby said one end of said casing may be deformed to disensage said lip from said cap.
