Description
J. J. WALTON- Reflector.
Patented Sept. 77,1880,
No. 232,092.v
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH J. WAL'ION, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
REFLECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,092, dated September '7, 1880.
Application led January 26, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosErI-I J. WAL'roN, of New York, in the county of New York and State ot' New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refiectors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description of the invention, which wili enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference heilig' had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part ot' this specification.
rIhis invention relates to an improvement `upon the reliectors shown in Patents Nos.
209,178 and 209,576; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of' parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, which fully illustrate my invention, Figure l is a rear elevation. Fifi'. 2 is a central vertical section. Fig. 3 is a detail view of my improved reflector.
A represents the reflector, which may be of conical, paraboloidal, hyperboloidal, or ellipsoidal form, provided with a slot, a, for the egress of the name. One side ot' this retlector is provided with an opening, b, havingon either side the ears c, formed and turned up from the body of the reector. Said ears are provided with openings d, through which passes a rod, e, having at one end a screw-thread,f, to receive a nut, i.
B represents a collar so constructed that it will adapt itself' to fit over either a candle or lamp-chimney, and having on'one side a pro jection, g, provided with an opening, h, to receive the rod e.
O O are sleeves through which the rod e passes. One end of' each of these sleeves is beveled to bear against the collar, and the other end bears against an ear, c, and they prevent the ears heilig brought too close together, thereby getting the reflector out of' shape.
By this arrangement it: will be seen that while the advantages for reecting the light at any angle are retained, the reflector may he thrown ont ot position without removing it from the light, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby producing a device that is easily and cheaplyconstructed and is perfect in its operation.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The reeetor A, having the slot a, opening b, and ears c, in combination with the collar B, rod e, nut 1?, and sleeves C, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as mv own I have hereto affixed my signature in pxesence ot' two witnesses.
JOSEPH J. WALTON.
Vitnesses ROBERT FAIR, H. S. MITCHELL.
