Description

P. CAVALIER. Lamp-Reflector.
No. 200,028. Patented Feb. 5, 1.878..
' lNVENTOR fla; M
ATTORNEYS WITNESS NPEIERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEH. WASHINGTON. D
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER CAVALIER," OF YANKTON, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
IMPROVEM ENT IN LAM P-REFLECTO RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,028, dated February 5, 1878; application filed December 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER CAVALIER, of Yankton, in the county of Yankton, and in the Territory of Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflectors for Lamps; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates particularly to chandeliers for lamps; and it consists in the constructi on and arrangement of an adjustable reflector,
to be attached to the main perpendicular rod,
of the chandelier, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
A represents the main perpendicular rod of a chandelier for lamps.
The arm to which the reflectors are attached is composed of two flat bars, B B, of any desired configuration, placed flat against each other, and being grooved in the center for the passage of the rod A.
The bars B B are connected at their ends by means of bolts 1) b, having nuts d d screwed upon their ends.
The head a of each bolt has a hole through it for the attachment of a reflector, G. This reflector may be made in any suitable form,
and is provided on the back with an inverted L-shaped arm, D, which is passed through the hole in the bolt-head a.
The arm B B is adjusted up and down upon the rod A, and held at any point desired by means of a set-screw, E, and the reflectors G C may be adjusted at any angle, to throw the light up or down, by simply turning the bolts 1) as required, and then fastening them by the nuts (I. Where the chandelier has four arms, the arm B is provided with a cross-arm, B, having similar bolts and reflectors at its ends.
The arms B B are, near the center, provided with tubes h h, so that if anybody should Want to use old side lamps with reflectors on, they can be applied in said tubes.
My invention may be applied to gas-chandeliers also, if so desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. In a reflector, the combination of the adj ustable bolt 1), having tubular head a, the fastening-nut d, and the reflector (3, with L- shaped arm D, for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the arm 13 B, with adjusting set-screw E, bolts b, with tubular heads a, and reflectors G, with arms D, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of November, 187 7.
PETER CAVALIER.
